installed at Altec Northeast LLC .
Refer to SIL 658 for items covered under the warranty policy. Altec will supply necessary parts to

Units Affected: Specific Effer Cranes installed at Altec Northeast LLC (see attached list)
Sense Line Hose Replacement
The Effer Crane product develops pump pressure higher than Altec units. This higher pressure
requires a hose with a higher pressure rating. The sense line on the affected units was made of
hose that did not have the higher pressure rating. Over time, this hose may have leaks at the
fittings or blistering of the sheathing due to the incorrect pressure rating. There have not been
any reported field failures of the sense line hose because of the incorrect hose.
Altec Northeast LLC requires that the affected hoses be replaced within 90 days of the receipt
of this SIL or at the next preventive maintenance interval. Each unit may have one to two sense
line hoses that require replacement. The hoses do not have a part number, and must be ordered
by the length of the hose. Use the procedure beginning on Page 2 to determine the hose length
required.
This repair is covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec or the
customer’s warranty provider. The part will be provided by Altec. Altec will allow up to $255
for the labor to perform this repair. A warranty claim must be submitted for the cost of labor.
Call 1-877-GO ALTEC (1-877-462-5832) to schedule the work to be done by an Altec service
technician. Customers are responsible for the travel costs of an Altec Mobile Service
technician if the technician performs the inspection or repair at the owner’s location.
Inspection and Measuring Procedure
1.Position the unit on a level surface, apply the parking brake and chock the wheels. Engage
the unit’s hydraulic system. Properly set the outriggers. Disengage the unit’s hydraulic
system.
2.Determine the locations of the hose or hoses requiring replacement. Each unit may have up
to two sense line hoses that require replacement. The sense line hoses will be black with
yellow lettering on it and be marked at 3000 PSI in the lettering (refer to Figure 1). These
hoses connect the sense port on the hydraulic pump to the shuttle valve below the crane
(refer to Figure 2). On a few units, the hose may also connect the shuttle valve below the
crane to the shuttle valve on the crane (refer to Figure 3).

3.Do not remove the hose from the components. Measure the hose from the end of one
crimped sleeve to the outer end of the other hose crimped sleeve using a tape measure (refer
to Figure 4). This will usually require more than one person to get an accurate measurement.
Notice if the hose end fittings are different than straight fittings and write down both the
hose length and end fittings type.

4.After the length is determined, contact 1-877-GO ALTEC (1-877-462-5832) and use
prompt 4 for Technical Support. Have the unit serial number, the length of the hoses, and
the type of end fittings. Contact Technical Support if assistance is needed or you have
questions.
5.Once the hoses have arrived from Altec, verify the length of the hose that was ordered
matches the length of the hose on the crane. If not, repeat Step 3.
Hose Replacement Procedure
Normal mechanics hand tools are required for the installation of this hose. Read and understand
all steps of the instructions before beginning the procedure.
1.Position the unit on a level surface, apply the parking brake and chock the wheels. Engage
the unit’s hydraulic system. Properly set the outriggers. Disengage the unit’s hydraulic
system.
Warning
Death or serious injury can result from hydraulic oil being injected into the flesh when loosening
or disconnecting hydraulic components. Remove the pressure before loosening or disconnecting
hydraulic components.
Seek immediate medical attention if injured by escaping hydraulic oil. Serious infection or reaction
can result if medical treatment is not given immediately.
Spilled hydraulic oil creates slick surfaces and can cause personnel to slip and/or fall. Keep the unit
and work areas clean.
2.Slowly loosen the sense line hose at the shuttle valve under the crane allowing the oil to leak
out into a container before completely removing the hose end from the valve.
3.After the oil is drained, remove the sense line hose from the hydraulic pump.
4.Install one end of the new hose on to the pump.
5.Install the remaining end of the hose on the shuttle valve. Tighten both ends of the hose
securely.
6.Repeat the same process for additional sense line hoses making sure to drain oil from the
hose before removing from the hydraulic component. Tighten all replacement hoses
securely.
7.Check the hydraulic oil level in the reservoir and refill with oil as necessary.
8.Engage the unit’s hydraulic system. Operate all unit functions checking for leaks and proper
operation. Make any corrections necessary.
9.After testing and being sure all functions work properly, stow the unit, retract the outriggers,
and disengage the unit’s hydraulic system. Check the hydraulic oil level in the reservoir and
refill, if necessary.
