Volvo Chassis - Diagnostic Trouble Code ( DTC ) P226C Intermittently Lighting The
Malfunction Indicator Lamp ( MIL ) - OBD15 And US14+OBD16 (Non-Common Rail
Fuel System) Conventional Chassis

Cause

OBD15 and US14+OBD16 (Commonly Model Year 2016 and 2017) chassis may
intermittently log DTC P226C

Solution

Overview
OBD15 and OBD16 (pre-common rail) conventional chassis may log DTC P226C
during operation. The diagnostic process that this DTC sets for is the monitor of boost
pressure change under sudden changes in engine load. The code is likely to set
intermittently and it may be difficult or not possible to duplicate during diagnosis.
Guided Diagnostics may result in No Fault Found (NFF). This issue is more likely to be
observed in chassis with a 13L engine and a lower power rating, and chassis with dual
torque engine ratings. This code will not affect performance or driveability. Turbocharg
er replacement is not a valid repair for this code.

Repair
Verify the chassis emissions level
• Details can be found in the Product Details box on the Product tab in PTT as seen
below:

For OBD15 And US14+OBD16 Chassis:
- Software improvements have been released to address this code. If P226C is
present and there are no other symptoms to indicate a physical issue, software
should be checked and updated as necessary.
- One or two modules can be affected by this update. Ensure the proper
instructions are followed:

- If the chassis has had containment software loaded previously:
• Reprogram the Engine Control Module ( EMS ) ONLY
- If the chassis has not had software containment
• Reprogram the following modules in the order listed.
1. Engine Control Module ( EMS )
2. Aftertreatment Control Module ( ACM )
- If the chassis returns for frequent recurrence of the code following the software
update, normal Guided Diagnostic procedures will need to be followed.
