Technical Background
The engine wiring harness may come into contact with an engine coolant hose clamp.

Validate customer concern:
 If customers concern corresponds with information provided in the Condition section of
this TSB, then continue. If not, perform diagnostics outside of this TSB.

2.

Inspect the engine harness for possible damage. Location shown in Figure 1 and Figure
2.

If damage is found to wiring, repair all damaged wires inside the harness:
 Consult the repair manual for instructions on harness repair with the VAS1978 Wiring
Harness Repair Set.
 Wrap the repaired section of the wiring harness with Cloth Webbed Adhesive Tape
(N10592002).

Rotate the coolant clamps 25 degrees counter clockwise, so the tabs face away from the
engine harness (Figure 3).

Reposition Engine Harness:
 Remove the retaining clip (Figure 4A) from the firewall and the harness.


Place new retaining clip (3D0971838A) onto the firewall.

 Position the harness to allow for a 10mm gap between the coolant pipe and the
harness (Figure 4B).

 Secure the retaining clip onto the harness, so the harness maintains the gap.

Figure 4. Remove the retaining clip (A) from the firewall and the harness. Place new
retaining clip (part number: 3D0971838A) onto the firewall. Position the repair harness so
that maintains a 10mm gap (B) between the harness and the coolant pipe. Secure the
new retaining clip to the repaired engine harness.
