Subject: Harman ETM New Software Version 17.44.21 for MY 2018
IMPORTANT: SW 17.44.21 is ONLY compatible with MY 2018 vehicles.

DESCRIPTION
Maserati Levante, Quattroporte and Ghibli vehicles MY18 have new software available to
update the ETM Module.
The new s/w version is 17.44.21.
When loading new ETM s/w, refer to Technical Bulletin “MAS001272 – Notes and
procedure for a proper ETM Software update”.

Procedures
The 17.44.21 SW update found on 4ME is for MY2018: Levante (M161) and Sedans
(M156/7). Only 1 USB (Pen) Drive is needed for all three vehicles for MY 2018.
- Purchase an 8GB or Larger USB (Pen) Drive and Format to “NTFS”.

a. Go on the 4ME website and select the File labeled “(IT) Software ETM MY 18
M156/157/161”. (Fig.1)

b. Download the “NAFTA” File (Fig.2) to your Desktop or Downloads Folder (NOT your
USB).
c. Once downloaded, go to the Folder and “UNZIP” it and you will find a Folder
labeled “USBStick_KaliSWDL_SystemOnly” open that folder and you will find
another folder labeled “KaliSWDL” open that folder and you will find 5 Files, take
these 5 files and drop them onto your USB drive that you formatted earlier. These
should be the only files on your USB (Pen) Drive.
IMPORTANT: When you perform software updates to the ETM, the system will
revert back to the factory settings and will erase all customer settings and
memories.
Please advise your customers accordingly before beginning any software
updates.
To check the software version currently in the ETM, go into the Settings menu and view
Software version.

1. Turn on the engine and then insert the Vehicle Specific Pen Drive into the USB
socket.
NOTE: If the procedure doesn’t start or an error appears, open a BOL.
2. After inserting the USB (Pen) Drive, the s/w version on the USB (Pen) Drive (as an
example: 16.28.51 will appear on the screen as shown in Fig.1.) Press “Si” (Yes) to
start loading the S/W. and a system reset will start. (Fig.2)

3. The download could take approx. 45 minutes.(Fig’s 3 and 4)

4. After the S/W download is complete, wait for the system to reboot and then press
“Accept”. (Fig.5)

5. After pressing “Accept”, press “No” (Fig.6) at the next screen and remove the USB
(Pen) Drive. (Pressing “No” will stop the system from restarting the s/w update).

6. Enter the ”Engineering Mode” by pressing the “Left Temp up” & “Sync” buttons at
the same time. (Fig.7)

7. Scroll through the “Engineering Mode” and locate “Reset to factory default” then
press “Reset to factory default”. (Fig.8)

8. At the next screen, press “Yes” and wait for the system to reboot. (Fig.9)

9. After the system reboots, DO NOT press “Accept”. (Fig.10)

10. Using the MDEVO, perform the active diagnosis “Learn vehicle configuration” and
wait for the system reboot.
11. With the MDEVO, select CHECK VEHICLE and launch CLEAR ALL DTC.
12. Test the ETM system operations.
13. Procedure is complete.
