Bulletin Duration: One (1) Year from Date of Issue

Overview:

Certain 2013 through 2017 model year Blue Bird Vision Ford 6.8L Drivers and Service manuals
list either SW-20 or 5W-30 Engine Oil Requirements. At your next and all subsequent oil
changes, Blue Bird recommends only the use of SW-30 motor oil. All oils used must have the
API certification mark. The current oil fill cap is labeled 5W-20. Install a new oil fill cap
labeled 5W-30.

5W-30 motor oil lubricates the valve train in a more efficient manner maintaining the excellent
longevity of the 6.8L V-10 engines, when used with the school bus duty cycle. Thicker oil films
can accommodate larger contaminants and offer more protection from any abrasive particles
equal to or larger than the oil film thickness which could cause wear.

Affected Units:
On subject buses, the owner is to install a new oil fill cap labeled 5W-30.

Parts:
The Parts List outlined on Page 2 of the Instructions details the part required to perform Service
Bulletin S16YS and is provided with this owner letter.

Time Allowance:
Time allowed for Oil Cap Replacement in each bus is 0.1 hours.

Completion Notification:

If you perform this service bulletin yourself or have an outside repair facility perform this
bulletin, please notify your Blue Bird Dealer when the repair is completed. Send the body
number, repair date, and odometer reading to your Blue Bird Dealer. If you request
reimbursement for labor, also send a copy of the work order/invoice to your Blue Bird Dealer.

If the modification directed by this notification was performed on your unit prior to the receipt of
this notification, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-
notification remedy of the subject matter of the campaign. Please provide a copy of all receipts

Bulletin Duration:
This Service Bulletin ends one (1) year from date of issue.

Repair Facility:

We encourage you to contact your Blue Bird dealer to arrange to have this Service Bulletin
performed. However, you may elect and have the option to perform this Service Bulletin
yourself or have a qualified repair facility convenient to you perform this work. A qualified
technician must perform work required under this bulletin.

The Blue Bird Vision mod Myeces With the optional Ford 6.8-liter V10 engine delivers
quality and reliabjiityavith over 13.miflion engines produced since its introduction. The
Ford 6.8-liter W10 offers Seyetal advantages; it is significantly quieter and warms up faster
during cold weather cofiditionSthan diesel engines. The ability to warm up quicker
eliminates the n for enbjpe pre-heating (block heater/cold weather package) or fuel
additives. Using highlidlg to warm up and low idle time during operation equals better fuel
economy. Extended idjing i is not required or recommended.

This high tech engine is different than diesel engines, it is spark ignited and features an
overhead cam timing drive to actuate the intake and exhaust valves. It is extremely important
to keep the vital components of this timing drive system well lubricated and maintained,
when used with the school bus duty cycle. Blue Bird only recommends the use of Motorcraft
5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend motor oil and to follow the oil change interval of every six
months or 5,000 miles.
