BLIND SPOT DETECTION (BSD) SOFTWARE UPDATE

This bulletin supersedes TSB 17-BE-007 to include a note relating to inapplicable model year
vehicles software update and repair procedure.
Description: When towing a trailer with some LF/LF-HEV/LF-PHEV Sonatas or some AN/NC Santa Fe
vehicles equipped with the Blind Spot Detection (BSD) feature, the trailer may interfere with the BSD
system operation resulting in cancellation of the BSD operation. When this occurs, a “BSD canceled”
message is displayed in the vehicle’s instrument cluster. The “BSD canceled” message remains on
even if the customer manually disables the BSD system, and may result in customer complaints. This
bulletin provides the service procedure to update the system software to turn off the “BSD canceled”
message when the BSD system is manually disabled.

NOTE 2: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing this TSB and the affected part
is still under warranty, submit a separate warranty claim using the same Repair Order. If the
affected part is out of warranty, submit a Prior Approval Request for goodwill consideration prior
to performing the work.

BSD SOFTWARE UPDATE PROCEDURE

WARNING

Before updating the software, confirm the vehicle is applicable in regards to Model and Model
Year. Updating the software to an inapplicable vehicle will damage both the left and right BSD
radar sensors and will require replacement. Such error will not be covered under warranty.

 NOTICE
If after updating the software and a BSD radar sensor is found faulty, then replace the radar
sensor with a new part and perform the software update again. Updating the software again
will update both BSD radar sensors to match with the same software version.

 NOTICE
To verify if the vehicle is affected:
 Check the current version of the BSD ROM ID and compare it to the ROM ID information table
listed below before attempting to update the BSD radar modules.

 NOTICE
Selecting BSD-L will update both the left and right side radar modules.

 NOTICE
You must initially perform GDS BSD Update in Auto Mode.
 If the BSD Update starts but then fails in Auto Mode, perform the update in Manual Mode to
recover.
 Refer to the General Instructions found in TSB: 15-GI-001 (GDS Mobile).

Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the ALL menus and erase any DTC.
Erase the DTC in the Blue Link system according to TSB 12-BE-005-2.
