KIB push-button compartment door lock modules on 2018 King Aire coaches may have a software glitch
that may cause some modules to fail to automatically acquire their network ID when installed.
When operating a compartment door push button, this scenario could potentially cause two different doors
to open instead of just one. The ID issue should have only occurred when the module was installed for the
first time during production. Coaches configured correctly during production (and operational when
shipped) will continue to operate correctly and do not need updated. Coaches built after production unit
#530451 have had the software update completed and should not have any ID configuration issues during
the installation process.
Coaches with this issue in the field will require contacting your Newmar Service Account Manager to
acquire an authorization from KIB for a Version 7 module (Newmar part #136937). The module can be
ordered from Newmar parts department. Once the module has been replaced, the old module should be
returned to Newmar.
Do not replace all of the compartment modules. Only replace one module that did not automatically
acquire their network ID correctly. There is one module for each door, and it is typically located at the top
of the compartment in close proximity to the corresponding compartment door. Only modules with date
before 10/10/2017 contained the older programming; modules with a date stamp after 10/10/2017 have
the newer Version 7 programming.

MCDLA-1B Replacement Instructions

Purpose:

Step-by-step instructions for replacing the Cargo Door Controller (MCDLA-1B).

Issue:

Two cargo doors open from one button press.

Scope:
Model year 2018 King Aire built before 10/18/17, only one controller per

RV.

Required for Job

Time 5-10 minutes

Step #1 Locate
-

Pick one of the two cargo doors with the issue.
Locate the MCDLA-1B (Newmar Part#136937)
Each cargo door has its own controller located
behind that cargo door, usually mounted to upper subfloor.

Step#2 Replace
-

Unplug the 12-position connector.
Unscrew MCDLA-1B from upper subfloor.
Replace with new MCDLA-1B.
Plug in the 12-position connector.

Step#3 Test
-

No special configuration is required.
Open and shut the cargo doors that had issue and confirm fix.
Open and shut every cargo door one at a time and confirm that no other
issue exists.

Step#4 Return defective part
-

Have the defective MCDLA-1B sent “UPS Ground”
back to NEWMAR with RMA number.
Labor will not be paid until part is returned.
