Air Conditioning Airflow Drops While Fan Is Running

This bulletin replaces bulletin Group 8,
#1501, dated 7-7-15.

Customer Situation: The airflow from the vents may be reduced dramatically while the blower is still running during
extended trips with lower fan speed settings (4 bars and below).
Work Procedure:

If the customer complains of the above symptom, it is important to verify that the basic necessities for
AC operation are in place.
Verify that the flap motor operation is normal by turning up the fan and switching the vent positions on
the control panel to verify airflow moves to the selected location. Also verify high and low side
pressures in the refrigerant circuit and refrigerant quantity. If pressures or quantity are abnormal, continue with refrigerant circuit diagnosis.
If the plenum flap motor operation and refrigerant circuit are normal, the issue may be related to a
freezing evaporator occurring under narrow operating conditions at lower airflows in automatic mode.
The primary factors affect this are a combination of high heat, humidity, & sun load. Shutting down the
vehicle and restarting after a fuel stop, for example, can be a trigger for the issue.
If the vehicle shows signs of this anomaly, please proceed with the re-programming instructions below.

Read and follow the information and instructions
on the PIWIS Tester during the guided programming sequence. The "air condition" control unit is
first re-programmed and then re-coded automatically during the programming sequence. Do not
interrupt programming and coding.

Following control unit programming, the software
version can be read out of the "air-condition: control
unit in the "Extended identification" menu using the
PIWIS Tester.
