before delivery. The owners of the vehicles affected by this bulletin will be advised by a letter indicating the Vehicle
Identification Number (VIN) of each vehicle concerned.

DESCRIPTION
On the vehicles affected by this bulletin, Prevost recommends the addition of an extension to the linear
thermal detector installed on your vehicle. This extension can possibly detect overheating of an alternator.

PROCEDURE

DANGER
Park vehicle safely, apply parking brake, stop engine. Prior to working on the vehicle, set the ignition
switch to the OFF position and trip the main circuit breakers equipped with a trip button. On the
Commuter type vehicles, set the battery master switch (master cut-out) to the OFF position.

PART 1 - LTD INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
IMPORTANT: WHEN INSTALLING THE “LTD”, THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES MUST BE
FOLLOWED.

NOTE
Always use double loop cable ties to secure LTD. LTD must be tied alone, with no other cables in the
loop.

NOT ALLOWED

CORRECT

Possible contact or rubbing against screws,
edges, etc.

LTD must be routed clear of screws, sharp
edges, etc.

NOT ALLOWED

Rubbing or possible rubbing against abrasive
surfaces

LTD must be secured with double loop cable
ties. Distance between cable ties must not
exceed 4 inches (100mm) max

LTD is not a flexible harness. Avoid tight
bends and kinks which could short circuit the
LTD. Loops must hace a minimum radii of 2
inches (50 mm)

PART 2 – PREPARATION
1)

With the battery master switch to the ON position and the ignition switch to the ON position, check
that there are no trouble conditions on the AFSS system. Check that the driver’s area AFSS
protection panel SYSTEM OK green lamp is illuminating. If it is not illuminating, then the TROUBLE
lamp should blink or illuminate steady. You must troubleshoot and correct that situation prior
proceeding to this bulletin.

2)

Disconnect the extinguisher bottle connector. If available, plug special device Kidde Valve
Simulator (Prevost #685128).
The Valve Simulator is used to simulate the squib and discharging of an extinguisher. It plugs into
the wiring harness of the extinguishing circuit and provides an audible warning (chirp) when a
signal is received from the control panel to discharge the extinguisher.
Failure to do so may result in extinguisher discharge at time of resetting the system if the LTD is
short circuited due to improper manipulations and/or faulty installation.

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Set the battery master switch to the OFF position.

4)

Inside the front electrical compartment, pull fuse F45 to cut electrical supply to the
AFSS protection panel (see FIGURE 3).

PART 3 – INSTALLATION OF THE LTD EXTENSION
3.1
The following images show a Linear Thermal Detector wire (LTD) installation
where the EOL (End Of Line) resistor is found far from the intake air preheater. These
images are used to illustrate a common installation. The actual installation on your
vehicle may differ slightly.
1)

On the cold side of the
engine, remove the End of
Line (EOL) resistor from
the
existing
LTD
connector. Keep the EOL
resistor for reuse.

NOTE: position of the EOL
resistance may vary from about
10 inches from one vehicle to
another. This position will
determine the final position of the
EOL resistor once connected at
the end of the extension.

2)

Plug extension #069175 to
the LTD connector. Make
sure that the connector
remains properly secured
with a nylon tie.

NOTE: The actual installation on
your vehicle may vary depending
on where the LTD connector is
located.
NOTE: secure the extension with
double loop cable ties at least
every 4 inches. Follow the
various guidelines highlighted in
PART 1 of this bulletin.
NOTE: respect the 2 inches radii.
NOTE: short arrows indicate a
nylon cable tie.

MAKE A CURVE WITH THE LTD AND THEN ROUTE IT DOWN ON THE
PREHEATER GROUND CABLE (gnd-0B1-2). KEEP THE LTD CLEAR FROM THE
PREHEATER STUDS.

point forward of the upper
alternator. The terminus
point will vary from one
vehicle to another.

5)

Plug the EOL resistor at
the end of the extension.

NOTE: extension connector must
be properly secure with a nylon
tie.
6)

Cut all the excessive
lengths on the nylon ties.

3.2
The following images show a LTD installation where the EOL (End Of Line)
resistor is found close to the intake air preheater. The actual installation on your vehicle
may differ slightly.

1)

The LTD connector is
located near the intake air
preheater; it is therefore
directed
toward
the
descending section of the
ground cable. Keep the
extension clear from the
preheater studs.

NOTE: the connector must be
securely attached using a nylon
tie.

on the left side of the
engine.

This modification is covered by Prevost’s normal warranty. We will reimburse you the parts and one
hour(s) (1.0) of labor upon receipt of a warranty claim. Please submit claim via our Online Warranty
System, available at www.prevostcar.com (under Service \ Warranty section). Use Claim Type:
“Bulletin/Recall” and select ‘’Warranty Bulletin WB17-02".
