Eliminating Symptoms on Body Exterior - Replacing the Charging Socket (water does not
drain from the charging socket/SY1315)

Symptom:

Water does not sufficiently drain away from the charging socket area, especially after heavy rain. The
water may remain in the charging socket for some time.
Electrical components of the charging socket, such as switches, connectors or LEDs, are corroded.
This may also cause a check engine warning, hybrid warnings, and various fault codes related to the high
voltage battery charger.

Cause

The diameter of the water drain hose is too small or the water drain hose is kinked.

Date of
introduction

From model year 2015 (F) onwards, only components with a large diameter will be installed.

Remedial
action

Check the type of the existing water drain hose and charging socket. Replace with the new, larger
diameter version depending on the respective existing type, see  Workshop Manual '279619 Removing
and installing charging socket'.
 During all work ensure that the water drain hose is not kinked.

Parts Info:

For USA plug connection variant: 970.611.369.44 – NEW –  Charging socket (with water drain
hose)
 In the event of a complaint on a vehicle up to model year 2015 (F), use the new charging socket
(with large diameter) (contrary to specification in the PET — which directs replacement only from
2015 onwards)

Replacing charging socket

Check the type and diameter of the existing water drain hose before carrying out any further
work.
 To do so you will need to expose the water drain hose:

remove left rear wheel.  Workshop Manual '440519 Removing and installing wheel "Removing" section'

3.2

Remove rear wheel housing liner at the left.  Workshop Manual '536919 Removing and
installing rear wheel housing liner - "Removing" section'

Determine the water drain hose diameter using a suitable measuring instrument:
- The old type has a diameter of approx. 4 mm:
 replace with the new water drain hose (complete component with charging socket and cable:
970.611.369.44), see  Workshop Manual '279619 Removing and installing charging socket'.
End of action required.
- The new type of water drain hose has a diameter of approx. 8 mm.
 check water drain hose has been installed without kinks.
End of action required.
