OUTSIDE REAR COMBINATION LAMP WATER INTRUSION

This bulletin provides the procedure to replace the outside rear combination lamp pads on
some 2011-2015MY Optima (TF), produced from August 12, 2010 through July 23, 2015, and
some 2011-2016MY Optima (TF HEV) vehicles, produced from February 15, 2011 through July
22, 2015, which may exhibit evidence of water intrusion in the outside rear combination lamps.
Follow the procedure outlined in this bulletin to replace both left and right outside rear
combination lamp pads with improved parts.

OUTSIDE REAR COMBINATION LAMP WATER INTRUSION

Service Procedure:
1. Open the trunk and carefully remove
cover (A) on one side.

Unplug the connector (B) by pushing
down on the lock and pulling the
connector away from the lamp.

Remove the three (3) retaining nuts.

Tightening torques:
40 in.lb (4.52 N.m, 46 kgf.cm)

Remove the rear combination outside
lamp then remove and discard the pad
(C).

Clear off any adhesive residue on the
combination lamp.

 NOTICE
If there is any moisture
remaining in the combination
lamp after removal, dry the
interior by gently blowing nonlubricated, regulated shop air
through the bulb socket (20 PSI
max). Advise the customer that
any remaining moisture will dry
out over time.

OUTSIDE REAR COMBINATION LAMP WATER INTRUSION

Remove the adhesive protector (D) from
the new pad and carefully align the new
pad onto the four (4) combination lamp
guide pins.
Firmly press the pad (E) onto the
combination lamp and ensure the new
pad is completely adhered to the lamp.

 NOTICE
Ensure the correct left/right pad
is installed on the correct rear
combination lamp by referring
to the Required Parts table on
page 5.

Reinstall the combination lamp and all
removed components in the reverse
order of removal.

8.

Repeat steps 1 through 7 for the other
side.

9.

Confirm proper operation
combination lamps.
