Caution!
When handling the rechargeable battery:
•
The rechargeable battery should be replaced only by properly trained personnel.
•
Never short-circuit the rechargeable battery.
•
Never throw the rechargeable battery into a fire.
•
Dispose of, or recycle the battery only when completely discharged and in accordance with
local regulations.
Note
The battery is pre-installed in the laptop prior to shipment and does not require any further setup.
The information below is for future reference only.
If it becomes necessary to remove and reinstall the battery, switch the laptop off and proceed as follows:
1. Carefully turn the laptop over.
2. Slide and hold the battery lock button in the unlock position, then grasp the battery on its raised
edge and slide out of housing:
3. Install in reverse order. (It is not necessary to hold the battery release button during installation.)
Caution!
Ensure battery pack
locks into place to prevent accidental loss during transport.

8.0 – Connecting to Power
During normal use the laptop is connected to power either directly via the power adapter, via the docking
station (port replicator) connection to the power adapter, or run from the internal rechargeable battery
pack.
Caution!
•
The power adapter includes a country-specific power cable (UL-approved or CSA-approved, oilresistant power cord). Use only the original Panasonic power adapter.
•
Operation on ungrounded or impedance-grounded electrical networks (IT electrical networks) is
prohibited.
9.0 – Windows® 10 - Initial Setup
9.1 – Preparation
Important Prerequisites:
Laptop is NOT mounted in docking station (port replicator)
Network (Ethernet) cable is NOT connected
1. Open the WIRELESS / Headphones / SD slot access cover (right side – middle) and check the
wireless operation switch position. Move the switch to the OFF position if necessary:
2. Connect assembled power adapter cables to a 115V A/C outlet and the DC IN 15.6V port:

9.2 - Switching the Device On and Off
1. Switch on the laptop by briefly pressing the on/off button. On first startup, a series of automatic setup
screens appears before the initial Windows setup routine.
Caution!
•
When switching the laptop off after normal use, DO NOT press and hold the on/off button for
longer than 5 seconds! Forced shutdowns may result in hard drive faults.
•
To switch off after normal use: go to Windows (Start) > Power icon > Shut down
9.3 – Initial Setup
9.3.1 – Startup Settings
1. Confirm the regional settings. Then scroll down and select the applicable time zone. Select Next:

9.3.2 – Delete Non-Applicable Information
1. Right-click > Delete the manuals folder from the Windows desktop:

9.3.3 – Prepare Windows Desktop
The desktop layout and icons on VAS 6150D should remain limited to those essential for its initial setup,
and subsequent use as a vehicle diagnostics device only.
The installation of personal software and desktop personalization other than that specified below
is not recommended or supported.
The following shortcut “drag-and-drop” link creation steps enable quick, familiar access to key Windows
functions directly from the desktop. Shortcut locations will be referenced during the remaining setup steps
and in other Service Information documents.
1. From the taskbar, click the
icon to reveal the Windows Start menu.
2. Scroll down and locate the Settings category from the Windows Start menu.
3. Select and drag the
icon from the Windows Start menu to the desktop.
4. Reopen the Windows Start menu.
5. Scroll down the Windows Start menu and expand ( ( ∨ ) )
6. Select and drag the
icon from the Windows System menu to the desktop.

9.3.4 – Device Power Management
To ensure uninterrupted data transfer when performing lengthy Software Version Management (SVM)
procedures, configure the device to remain on as follows:

If more than one diagnostic laptop or tablet is connected to the dealership network, each device must be
assigned a different computer name.

10.2 – Enable Network Connections
Prerequisites:
Network cable (Ethernet) and Wireless Local Access Network (WLAN) connections available.
Person performing network setup is familiar with all dealership network particulars, and I.T. Policy
where applicable. E.g.: Network set for DHCP, OR Static IP setup (all IP addresses known), WLAN
SSID (name) & security key, additional antivirus and security firewall settings if applicable etc.
1. Open the WIRELESS / Headphones / SD slot access cover (right side – middle) and switch the
wireless operation switch to the ON position:

a) If the Status column is empty and the Startup Type shows Disabled, leave this window
open and proceed to Section 11.1 - How to enable Windows 10® updates
b) If the Status shows Running and the Startup Type shows Automatic or Automatic (Delayed
Start), close this window and proceed to Section 11.2 – How to perform Windows updates.
11.1– How to enable Windows 10® updates
1. Double Click on Windows Update.
2. You will perform the below 4 steps to enable the Windows Update Service.
a) In the Startup Type Box select Automatic
b) Click Apply
c) Click Start ( wait 4-5 seconds for the Service to start)
d) Click OK to close the Window

use of V AS 5054 A Diagnostic Interface (Bluetooth ® ) devices. As a
result, V AS 5054 A are not included as a diagnostic interface choice
during the ODIS Service installation routine on Windows 10 devices.

14.0 – Warranty Registration
A formal registration process for warranty coverage is not necessary.
The device serial number was automatically registered with the US/CDN market service provider for
warrantable repairs at the time of purchase.
In case of warranty repair requests, please provide the serial number of the device to the DSS consultant
at the toll-free number listed in Section 15.0.
15.0 – Windows 10 Familiarization
Service personnel that are not familiar with Windows 10 should refer to the information resources included
with the device.
Go to: Windows Start > Get Started > Browse topics. Then select a topic.
16.0 – Malfunctions and Support
All VAS 6150D are tested before leaving the factory. Selected components and numerous quality
control inspections ensure high reliability of your new diagnostic laptop.
Should performance or functional issues occur after placing the device into service, please attempt to
identify and localize as accurately as possible. Try to determine if the symptom is a result of the
Panasonic CF-54 laptop hardware, Windows operating system, ODIS Service software or
dealership network (for internet connectivity). Then proceed as follows:
•
Review the latest Service Information and FAQ documents in the Diagnostic Device Hardware
& Windows document subcategory of the Vehicle Diagnostics section in ServiceNet. The issue
may be previously known and a resolution already published.

For ODIS Service diagnostic software functional issues, review the latest Service Information
