After one or both of the front door control units (J386/J387) is replaced, one or both of the rear door control units
(J3888/J389) cannot be coded or parameterized via an SVM specified vs. actual comparison (spec/actual).

Technical Background
The parameter data in the software coding container has changed for the front and rear door control units. As a
result, an SVM code is required to update the parameter data for any replacement control unit. Simply running an
SVM spec/actual will not code nor update the parameter data in the new replacement control unit. A hardware
change suggestion will be provided when an SVM spec/actual is executed. An additional hardware replacement is
not required.

For A5:
Refer to TSB 2022450, Window regulator noisy during operation, before proceeding with this TSB to ensure that
additional steps are not required. When replacing the driver or passenger front door control unit (J386/J387),
perform an SVM code to update the coding and parameter data in the control unit(s).
For A4, S4, allroad, A3, A6, and A7:
When replacing the driver or passenger front/rear door control unit (J386/J387/J388/J389), perform an SVM code
to update the coding and parameter data in the control unit(s).

Note:
• The table below contains four separate SVM codes depending on the installation location. Each code will only
work for only one of the door control unit locations at a time. Each code must be executed separately. For
instance, when replacing more than one control unit during a single service visit, replace only one of the control
units and execute the SVM code for that affected location. Then replace the second control unit for the other
location and execute the appropriate SVM code. Repeat for each location.
• The A4, A5, A6, and A7 rear door control units have the same hardware/software part numbers for the left and
right sides (and can be installed on either side), but note that there are different SVM codes for rear left and
rear right.
• No software update is performed during this SVM communication.
