Subject: Optional Windows Updates

1.0 - Introduction
Windows 7 updates for diagnostic laptop and tablet devices are provided in three categories:
• Important
• Recommended
• Optional
Be advised that the arbitrary installation of some Optional Windows updates may adversely affect
diagnostic device and peripheral hardware system performance.
Specifically, the installation of any Optional Windows updates intended for software and hardware system
manufacturers other than Panasonic may adversely affect the function of similar or related systems on
the diagnostic device. The same applies to optional software updates for hardware systems that are not
resident on the diagnostic device.
Examples:
1. Installing the following Optional update for a non-Panasonic system may adversely affect the ability
of the diagnostic device to communicate via Bluetooth® with its VAS 5054A transmitter head:
TOSHIBA – Audio Device, Other hardware – USB Bluetooth Driver (ALPS) - - - - Optional 1/30/2015

2. Installing the following Optional update for a non-resident hardware system may adversely affect
USB functions:
SCM Microsystems Inc. - Other hardware - Smartcard reader – SCR35xx USB - - - - Optional 2/20/2015

2.0 - Recommendations
 All diagnostic devices in workshop service should be set up to notify users that Windows updates
are available, but allow the user choose whether or not to download and install them. For details
refer to the Service Information – Diagnostic Device Hardware & Windows document title that
covers the applicable device’s Unpacking & Setup Instructions (Laptop: ref. Section 8.5 – Tablet:
ref. Section 8.6).
 Unless instructed otherwise via Service Information documentation, Important and
Recommended updates should always be applied to ensure device security and reliability.
 In most cases we recommend to ignore all Optional updates.
Note:
If in doubt, or where diagnostic devices are subject to dealership-specific software or hardware
policies, restrictions etc., ask your dealership Systems Administrator or IT Professional for assistance
and reference this document before downloading and installing Windows updates.
