The front chassis harness on some Volvo VNL trucks equipped with a Cummins engine and
aftertreatment system built between 02/04/2013 and 12/31/2016 may have paint inside the
SCR connector. This paint can lead to water intrusion and corrosion, causing datalink and
aftertreatment system faults. Furthermore, connectivity problems can casuse the engine to
derate and other drivability issues. If corrosion is found on the SCR connector on the front
chassis harness, replace the connector following the instructions below.

Decommissioning the Truck for Repair
You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information,
group 80, "General Safety Practices, Body, Cab & Interior" before performing this
procedure. If you are not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your
supervisor for training before you perform it.
NOTE: Information is subject to change without notice. Illustrations are used for reference
only and can differ slightly from the actual vehicle being serviced. However, key
components addressed in this information are represented as accurately as possible.
1 Park the vehicle on a flat and level surface.
2 Apply the parking brake.
3 Place the transmission in neutral or park.
4 Install the wheel chocks on the front wheels.

5 Disconnect the cable from the battery’s negative terminal.

Inspection Procedure
1 After allowing the emissions system to cool, Identify the harness and connector in
question.
2 The connector will be accessed under the truck and located on the inner side of the SCR
emissions system.

3 Disconnect the connector and inspect the interior for any signs of paint or corrosion.
4 If paint or corrosion is found in the connector, continue the method below to repair the
harness.
Repair Procedure
You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information,
Function Group 20, "Engine Safety Practices" before performing this procedure. If you are
not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training before
you perform it.
1 Cut the harness tape back approximately 2 inches back from the connector.
2 Cut the 5 wires to remove the connector.
Note: Preserve as much length of undamaged wire as possible.
3 Strip 9 ±1 mm (0.314 in) of insulation from each wire.
4 Use a wire splice to join the corresponding wires to the connector.

5 Crimp the wire splice.

6 Use heat gun to shrink in place.

7 Repeat for each wire.
8 Tape the harness with heat resistant harness tape.
9 Reconnect the connectors and secure the harness with cable ties as necessary.
