With affect from VIN SCBBA63Y6BC015925, Bentley
Motors has upgraded the power assisted steering pump.
Remedy
The service remedy is to fit a new (PAS) power assisted steering pump and cooler. The cooler is engineered to match the requirements of the pump.
Customer notification
Customers do not need to be informed directly of this campaign. Please ensure that all affected vehicles are checked and repaired during a service
visit. You should also inform your new and used car sales departments so that the vehicles affected can be checked and, if necessary, repaired
immediately.

With affect from VIN SCBBA63Y6BC015925, Bentley Motors has upgraded the power assisted steering pump.
Check
If the vehicle is not already listed as repaired in “Repair history” (in Elsa Pro) check the vehicle for the campaign completion paint mark (Figure 16), if it
is evident that the campaign has not been applied carry out the required work in accordance with these instructions.
Control
All Mulsannes from VIN SCBBA63Y6BC015925 have the upgraded PAS pump and cooler fitted at the time of production.

Workshop tool WT 10292 must be used when refilling the PAS system Refer to Workshop Manual Rep.Gr 48 - Power Steering-To Bleed.
Workshop tool WT 10001 Oetiker side jaw pliers.
Work
1. Remove the left hand air intake duct Refer to workshop Manual Rep.Gr 24 Intake Air Ducts To Remove and Fit.
- The PAS pump is located in the L/H front corner of the engine assembly (Figure 1).

- IMPORTANT: There are two types of pump that may be fitted.
- The ZF pump has an identification sicker on the top of the pump (Figure 2). This type of pump must be replaced along with the PAS cooler - Go to
procedure 2.

- The Kayaba pump has no identification sticker, it does have a blanking plug on the side casing (Figure 3). Should the Kayaba pump be fitted the PAS
cooler only should be replaced - Go to procedure 3.

2. Replace the PAS pump Refer to Workshop Manual Rep.Gr 48 Steering- Power Steering Pump-To Remove and Fit.
NOTE: The two rear PAS pump fixings (circled in Figure 4) should be hexagon headed bolts, do not refit the original Allen headed bolts please discard
and fit two new WHT 002 730 hexagon headed bolts.

The PAS pump hose could have previously been secured with a springband clip (Figure 5) or a hose clip (Figure 6). These clips
MUST be discarded and replaced with an Oetiker clip with the part number N90 411 901 (Figure 7). Secure the Oetiker clip using
Oetiker side jaw pliers WT 10001.
NOTE: Before refitting the PAS pump hose as shown in Figure 7 see instructions below.
- Clean any excess steering fluid from the inside of the PAS hose which joins directly onto the PAS pump, the PAS pump elbow must
also be free from fluid
- Place the clip on the hose and slide onto the PAS pump elbow, the hose initially feels a relaxed fit this is within specification
- Secure the Oetiker clip as shown in Figure 7
IMPORTANT: Never reuse Oetiker clips.

3. Remove the PAS cooler Refer to workshop Manual Rep.Gr 48 Steering – Power Steering Cooler- To Remove and Fit.
4. Place the cooler on a clean flat surface ensuring the orientation is as shown in Figure 8 with the two large rivet heads facing upwards.

- Lightly lubricate the O-rings, which are fitted to the PAS pipes 3Y0 422 891C and 3Y0 422 890B with new Pentosin hydraulic fluid part number RH
5000
- Install the pipes as shown in Figure 9. Secure the pipes with bolt N10 632 004, torque the bolt to 6 Nm

- Using the Torx bolt, which is supplied pre fitted to the cooler, secure the cooler bracket 3Y0 422 164 to the PAS cooler as shown in Figure 10,
ensuring correct orientation of the bracket with the thinnest edge of the bracket on the outside. Torque the fixing to 6 Nm

- At the opposite end of the cooler fit bracket 3Y0 422 163 using N91 073 301 and torque the bolt to 6 Nm (Figure 11) NOTE: The bracket has a
location tang (Figure 11 point A) which allows the bracket to be fitted one way only.

- Position the two Oetiker clips N10 197 601 onto the PAS cooler hoses (Figure 12).

- Locate the cooler pipes into the PAS cooler hoses (Figure 13) NOTE: Do not at this stage secure the cooler to the front end module.

- Position the two Oetiker clips as shown in Figure 14 and secure the clips using Oetiker pliers WT 10001.

5. Secure the PAS cooler to the front end module Refer to workshop Manual Rep.Gr 48 Steering – Power Steering Cooler- To Remove and Fit.
IMPORTANT: Before any attempt is made to unscrew and remove the PAS reservoir cap for filling and bleeding purposes it is
essential that the breather pipe is disconnected (Figure 15) prior to removal of the cap as the pipe can be easily damaged.

6. Bleed the PAS system, Refer to workshop Manual Rep.Gr 48 Steering- Power Steering-To Bleed ensuring the use of workshop tool part number WT
10292.
- Reconnect the PAS reservoir breather pipe
7. On completion road test the car. Carry out a post road test inspection, raise vehicle on ramp check PAS system for leaks and rectify as necessary.
8. Place a yellow paint completion mark on the left hand strut tower (Figure 16).
