Summary
Some vehicles may exhibit the driver and/or passenger side tension band(s) (A) hanging down from the convertible top. Upon inspection, the plastic plate (A) of tension band is broken where it is riveted to the header panel (B). This is caused by insufficient strength of the plastic plate. To correct this issue, the configuration of the tension band will be changed to increase the strength. NOTE: The header panel is shown with the fabric top removed.

DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit the driver and/or passenger side tension band(s) (A) hanging down from the
convertible top.
Upon inspection, the plastic plate (A) of tension band is broken where it is riveted to the header panel (B).
This is caused by insufficient strength of the plastic plate. To correct this issue, the configuration of the
tension band will be changed to increase the strength.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
OUTLINE
NOTE: REPAIR BOTH SIDES EVEN WHEN IT IS BROKEN AT ONE SIDE ONLY.
1. Remove the broken plastic plate (A) from the tension band (B).
2. Push two holes in the tension band and the header panel (C) respectively at the specified positions.
3. Attach the tension band to the header panel with two rivets and washers (D).

3. Remove the screws (A) from the header panel (B).
4. Remove the two fasteners (A), then remove the link weather strip No.1 (B). (Both sides)
5. Remove the EPT sealer (A) on the retainer (B). (Both sides)

6. Remove three screws and remove the retainer (A) on both sides.
NOTE: Before removing the three screws, place a marking (B) around the screw so that the retainer
can be installed in the original position.
7. Remove the top fabric (A) from the header panel (B) until the fixing points (C) of tension bands are
exposed.
8. Close the convertible top and engage the striker (A) in the latch (B) in the half lock condition.
NOTE:
It is easier to perform the following steps, if the convertible top is fixed.
DO NOT close (lock) the convertible top completely. Otherwise, the tension band will be
stretched excessively and the repair cannot be performed correctly.

9. Fit the broken plastic plate (A) to the original installed position.
10. While holding the plastic plate, put four marks (A) on the header panel to indicate the original
installed position of the tension band as shown.

11. Cut the stitches (A) using a sharp box knife and remove the plastic plate (B) from the tension band
(C).

12. Mark the positions (A) as shown to create two rivet installation holes in the tension band,
CAUTION: Pay close attention where the marks are placed. DO NOT mistake the vehicle inner (I) and
outer (O) sides.
13. Using a soldering iron, create two holes with a smaller size than the rivet (A) at the positions
marked in the previous step.
CAUTION: The holes must be located exactly in the specified positions, or this Repair Procedure will
not be successful and the convertible top assembly will need to be replaced.

14. Verify that the width between the tension band edge (A) and the edge (B) of holes is more than 7
mm.
NOTE: If the width is less than 7mm, the convertible top assembly will need to be replaced with a new
one.
15. Place the tension band to the originally installed position by aligning it with the marks (A) made
before, and mark the position (B) to drill holes in the header panel.

16. Drill two holes with a diameter of 4 mm in the header panel at the positions marked in the previous
step.
NOTE: Make sure to capture the metal shavings while drilling so they do not fall into the vehicle cabin.
17. Remove burrs from the holes after drilling.

18. Looking at the cabin side of the header panel (A), check if the protector (B) interferes with the rivet
when installed. If it interferes, chip or melt the protector appropriately using a soldering iron to create
room for rivet installation.

19. Install the tension band with rivets (9025-73-209) and washers (9995-20-412).
NOTE: DO NOT remove the original rivets (A). If they are removed, part of the rivet might remain in the
header panel and could cause a noise.

20. Verify that the rivets are tight. If they are not tight, remove the rivets and install new ones.
NOTE: If the washer is loose, the rivet is not tight.
21. Temporarily install the header cover and verify that the rivets do not contact the header cover. If it
does make contact, file off the lower part of the rivet.
22. Select a 0.25mm thickness sheet from the “Noise Repair Kit” (TA01 76 100) and cut the sheet into
2 pieces of size 50 X 20 mm. Attach the sheet (A) and align it with the protector line (B) in order to
cover the rivets on both sides.
NOTE: If the sheet is not installed, the rivets may be visible at the clearance between the header cover
and the header panel.
23. Remove pieces (A) of the broken plastic plate remaining around the old rivets (B).
NOTE: If the pieces are not removed, they may fall out later in the interior of the vehicle.
24. Install the top fabric to the header panel in reverse order of removal.

a. Install the retainer in the originally installed position by aligning the screw with the marking
(A) made before.
b.
c. Cut the EPT sealer (NF47-R1-182) into 2 pieces 40mm X 5mm.
d. Attach the new EPT sealer (A) on the retainer on both sides.
e.
f. Replace the EPT sealer (B) (NF47 R1 182) at the front corner of the top fabric with a new
one on both sides.
25. Install the header cover according to the instructions on MS3 online ( HEADER COVER
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
26. Verify repair.
