Subject: FRONT SPRING HANGER BOLT MAINTENANCE
RELEVANT MODEL: 16MY and earlier Hino Conventional Trucks (238, 258, 268 or 338) that
were assembled before 2/9/2015.

OVERVIEW:

The front leaf spring hanger bracket fasteners should be checked for looseness every 6
months or 18,000 miles (29,000km) per the Owner’s Manual. If one of the lower fasteners
is found to be loose during this inspection, this procedure should be followed to address
this condition.

and is not authorization for a warrantable repair.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
- Read and understand all instructions and procedures before you begin the work.
- Read and follow all WARNINGS and NOTICES set forth in this publication. These alerts help to
avoid damage to components, serious personal injury, or both.
- Park the vehicle on a flat, level and solid surface.
- Place the gear shift lever in "Neutral" or "Park".
- Apply the parking brake firmly and confirm parking brake activation.
- Turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition switch.
- Always wear safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes.
- A dust mask must be worn when sanding or grinding fiberglass material.
- Place wheel chocks in front of and behind all the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving.

VEHICLE PREPARATION:

1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level and solid surface.

2. Confirm the engine is stopped, the ignition switch is in the off (LOCK) position, and the key
is removed.

3. Apply the parking brake.

4. Chock all of the wheels.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE:
1. Using a torque wrench set to 66 lb-ft (90Nm), check the torque of the lower two fasteners on
each front spring hanger bracket. A Snap-on™ FRES24 ¾ inch adapter or equivalent is the
recommended tool to perform this check. If the fasteners are not loose, do not continue with
this procedure.

2. If the fasteners are found to be loose, inspect the spring hanger brackets for any damage.
Damaged brackets must be replaced.

3. Remove the nuts from all four of the fasteners so that the Loctite 263 can be applied.
Replace any missing, rusted, or worn fasteners as needed using the part numbers referenced
in this bulletin.

4. Clean the bolt and nut threads with a wire brush and apply Loctite 263 Threadlocker to all
four spring hanger bracket bolts.

5. Install the nuts and tighten to the specified torque using the FRES24 or equivalent adapter.
Allow the vehicle to sit for at least one hour before returning to the customer. Proceed to final
inspection.
Specified Torque: 110 lb-ft (150 Nm)

FINAL INSPECTION PROCEDURE:
1. To complete this Technical Service Bulletin, review the bulletin and confirm the following:
Loctite 263 has been applied to all four lower spring hanger bracket bolts.
All fasteners are tightened to the specified torque.
