OVERVIEW
When replacing a broken hood grille, an enhanced replacement hood grille is available. This procedure should
be used when installing this enhanced grille to make certain that the hood grille is correctly installed.
NOTE: This procedure is provided as technical information and is not an authorization for a warranty repair.

2011MY – 2015MY Hino Conventional NE8J, NJ8J, and NV8J vehicles
BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
- Read and understand all instructions and procedures before you begin the work.
- Read and follow all WARNINGS and NOTICES set forth in this publication. These alerts help to avoid damage
to components, serious personal injury, or both.
- Park the vehicle on a flat, level and solid surface.
- Place the gear shift lever in "Neutral" or "Park".
- Apply the parking brake firmly and confirm parking brake activation.
- Turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition switch.
- Always wear safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes.
Place wheel chocks in front of and behind all the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving.

1. Park the vehicle on level ground.
2. Confirm the engine is stopped, the
ignition switch in the off (LOCK) position
and the key is removed.
3. Apply the parking brake.

4. Chock the front wheels.
Hood Grille Removal Procedure:
1. Close the hood.
2. Tape the hood grille to the hood
in 4 locations to hold the hood
grille in place during fastener
removal.

3. Raise the hood.
4. Release the blue plastic retaining
clips. The number of blue clips
installed on the lower edge of the
grille may vary from 3 to 5
depending on the version of the
grille currently installed.
NOTICE: During the inspection
procedure, you may discover that
one or more of these clips have
loosened. If there is a clip that is
still secured, care should be taken
to release the clip from the
backside of the hood. Do not pull
on the grille from outside of the
hood, because this can result in
damage to the mounting points on
the hood.

5. If equipped, remove the 2 bolts from
lower portion and discard.
NOTICE: Do not use power tools to
remove or reassemble the hood grille to
the hood. Use of power tools can result in
damage to the hood grille mounting
points.
6. Remove the 11 nuts that secure the
hood grille to the hood and reuse if
possible.

7. Close the hood.

8. Remove the tape on the hood grille
and remove the hood grille from the
hood.
HOOD GRILLE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
1. There are 10 rubber
insulators already installed on
the new grille. These will have
a black metal backing and be
present on all studs except for
the top center stud behind the
grille emblem. Make certain
these are present and that the
rubber side faces toward the
hood. Install the new hood
grille to the hood and tape the
hood grille to the hood in the
4 locations shown.

2. Apply pressure to the lower front edge
of the hood grille to engage the 3 blue
plastic hood grille clips to the hood.
3. Open the hood.
4. Install one nut at the center mounting
stud and finger tighten. Verify the hood
grille is seated and then tighten this nut
to the specified torque.
Specified Torque: 4.0 ft.lb (5.5Nm)
NOTICE: Never exceed the specified
torque when tightening the nut.
Exceeding the specified torque may result
in hood grille damage.

5. Using the 10 new washers,
install 1 washer onto each of
the 10 remaining mounting
studs. Make certain the rubber
side faces toward the hood.
The metal portion of these
washers is silver in color and
should be facing away from the
hood. Refer to the illustration.
Finger tighten. Again, confirm
the hood grille is seated onto
the hood, and tighten all
fasteners in a criss-cross
pattern to the specified torque.

NOTICE:
1. The metal face of the silver washers must be visible when installed (nut
side).
2. Never exceed the specified torque when tightening the 10 nuts.
Exceeding the specified torque may result in hood grille damage.
Specified Torque: 4.0 ft.lb
(5.5Nm)
6. Install the 2 bolts to the lower edge
and tighten to the specified torque.
Specified Torque: 4.0 ft.lb (5.5Nm)
NOTICE:
1. Care should be taken when tightening
the bolts to make certain the fasteners
are not cross threaded.
2. Never exceed the specified torque
when tightening the 2 bolts. Exceeding
the specified torque may result in hood
grille damage.

7. Close the hood and remove the 4
pieces of tape.
8. Engage the 2 hood
latches.
FINAL INSPECTION PROCEDURE:
1. To complete this Technical Service Bulletin, review the bulletin and confirm the following:
Fit and alignment of the hood grille to the hood.
All fasteners are tightened to the specified torque.
Hood latches are engaged.
