Water Leak onto Passenger’s Front Floor

INTRODUCTION:
This bulletin provides a service procedure to address a small number of reports involving water
leaking into the interior and collecting in the passenger’s front floor area.
PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION:
A change involving sealer application to prevent this condition was incorporated into production
starting with VIN F*600651.

SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION:
NOTE: Always confirm the A/C evaporator drain is functioning properly before proceeding.
1. Open the hood fully as shown in the illustrations below.

2. Record the Customer’s radio station presets (and navigation favorites where applicable).
3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
4. Remove the windshield wiper arms, cowl panel and the passenger-side interior kick panel
trim following the procedures in the applicable Service Manual.
5. Using the illustrations below for reference, pour water into the cowl area drain (circled in
red) and watch for it to appear at the 10mm hole (circled in blue) in the passenger-side kick
panel area. If the leak is confirmed as described, proceed with this repair procedure. If not,
the source of the leak is most likely elsewhere.

6. After confirming the leak presents as described above, the repair will be to apply additional
sealer to the area as described in the illustrations below. Use a large, long, flat-blade screwdriver
as the sealer applicator, working through the 27mm cowl area drain “Work Hole”.

7. Clean the area (circled in green) shown above in Fig. d-2 using parts cleaning spray and a long,
thin, stiff-bristle brush. Use compressed air to dry the area completely.
8. Apply sealer to the tip of a large flat-blade screwdriver (or an equivalent “applicator tool”) as
shown in Fig. e below.

9. Insert the tool through the Work Hole (Fig. f).

10. Apply the sealer as shown in the cross-section Close-Up view illustrations A-A and Fig. g below.

11. Repeat steps 8. to 10. four more times (five times total) to insure any remaining voids in the
sealer have been filled.
12. After allowing ample time (see instructions on sealer package) for proper curing, pour water into
the cowl drain hole again as described in 5. above and confirm no water leaks from the 10mm
hole in the kick panel area.
13. Using parts cleaning spray on a clean shop cloth, clean and dry the area around the 10mm hole in
the kick panel area.

14. Peel and apply the GROMMET SHEET to the kick panel covering the 10mm hole (fig. j) as
shown below.

15. Reassemble the vehicle trim and cowl panel components in reverse order of disassembly.
16. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and reset the radio station presets (and navigation
favorites where applicable) to complete the procedure.
