This service bulletin applies to model year 2016 Gladiator and
Metrostar, model emergency response chassis cabs built between April
09, 2013 and November 1, 2016.

CONDITION:

Instrument panels equipped with the C-COM Lightbar-Message Center
(LMC) produce an unintentional alarm that may not be silenced by the
driver.

CORRECTION:

Update the software within the LMC

LABOR ALLOCATION:

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:
Note: Updating the LMC software is requires a PC running Windows XP or newer operating
system and one of the following databus communication adapters capable of J1939
communication at 500 kbps:
• Dearborn DPA-4 USB
• Nexiq USB-Link 2
• Vector CANcaseXL
1. Contact Spartan Motors USA, Inc. Customer & Product Support Group at 1-800-543-5008 to
obtain software download instructions and the part number of the instrument panel
installed in your vehicle. These are required to complete the instructions. Please have your
VIN number available.
2. Turn the master and ignition switches on. Allow the gauges to complete their start-up
sequence.
3. Using the left button on the LMC, enter the display menu.
4. Using the LMC buttons, navigate to the Self Test > Version menu. (Right Button = navigate,
Center Button = select, Left Button = previous menu/exit).
5. On the version screen, look for the Config. ID. If the Config. ID ends in the letter “a” (e.g.,
“106100a”), pleases stop and contact Spartan Motors USA, Inc. Customer & Product
Support Group at 1-800-543-5008. These vehicles will require additional parts to complete
the update.
6. Turn off the ignition switch. Turn off the master switch.
7. Connect communication adapter to green vehicle diagnostic port located below instrument
panel, to left of steering column.
8. Turn master and ignition switches on. Allow gauges to complete their start-up sequence.
9. Open FlashXHZ.exe program.
10. Select appropriate communication adapter (e.g., Nexiq USB-Link2).
11. Based on gauge panel part number, select proper databus speed.
a. For all 2001-NN1 parts, select 500K CAN
b. For all 2018-NN1 parts, select 250K CAN

12. Click FIND CLUSTER.
13. Select CCOM-LMC in AMETEK DEVICES FOUND list.
14. Select Browse.
15. Based on gauge panel part number, select proper flashfile according to Table 1.
16. Click DOWNLOAD.
17. Downloading will begin.
DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL DOWNLOADING IS COMPLETE. REMOVING
POWER WHILE DOWNLOADING MAY CORRUPT THE PROGRAMMING.
18. When complete, it should say “Downloading is completed successfully.”
19. The LMC will automatically restart. Wait for gauges to reset and perform their self-test
routine.
20. Using left button on LMC, enter display menu.
21. Using LMC buttons, navigate to the Self Test > Version menu. (Right Button = navigate,
Center Button = select, Left Button = previous menu/exit).
22. On Version screen, verify Config. ID is correct for gauge panel part number according to
Table 1.
