WH14 - Replacing Filter Flange of Fuel Pump (Workshop Campaign)

This revision amends WH14 as follows:
The following section has been removed:
This campaign includes steps where control unit(s) in the vehicle will be programmed. The vehicle
voltage must be maintained between 13.5 volts and 14.5 volts during this programming. Failure to
maintain this voltage could result in damaged control unit(s). Damage caused by inadequate voltage
during programming is not a warrantable defect. The technician must verify the actual vehicle voltage
before starting the campaign and also document the actual voltage on the repair order. Please refer to
Equipment Information EQ1401 for a list of suitable battery chargers/power supplies which should be
used to maintain vehicle voltage.

Information:

Leaks have occurred at the filter flange of the fuel pump over the service life of vehicles manufactured during certain periods on some Volkswagen Group brands.
Similar components are installed in Cayenne vehicles from model years 2003 - 2006. However, Porsche
is not aware of any problem concerning leaks at the filter flange of the fuel pump on these vehicles.
To find out more about the long-term behavior of the filter flange of the fuel pump, part testing must be
carried out on specific Cayenne vehicles from model years 2003 – 2006 as a preventative measure.

Remedial
Action:

Replace filter flange of the fuel pump.

Vehicles:

Only the vehicles assigned to the campaign. Please check PIWIS vehicle information to determine if VIN
affected.

Replace filter flange of the fuel pump. For instructions, see  Workshop Manual '206019 Removing
and installing fuel filter'.

Information
Returning filter flange of the fuel pump.
The removed filter flange must be returned to the address specified below in order to carry out an
extensive analysis of its long-term behavior.
For diagnosing the filter flange, please check and
document the following points:

Remove fuel residues from the removed filter flange
and clean it.

After removing and emptying the filter flange, fit
protection caps on the openings. Use the protection
caps from the new filter flange for this.

Check the top of the filter flange for cracks 
Examining filter flange of fuel pump -arrows- or
distinct yellow discoloration using a commercially
available magnifying glass and a shop light.

Attach digital photos showing the condition of the
filter flange.

Document the condition of the filter flange in writing in
PQIS.

Package fuel filter in accordance with IATA, UN 3363 “Dangerous goods in apparatus” and packing
instruction PI 962. Check the following while doing this:

Examining filter flange of fuel pump

As much fuel as possible must be drained from the fuel system components and all openings must
be sealed securely. The components must be packaged:
(a) in sufficiently absorbent material in order to absorb the maximum amount of fluid that may still
remain after draining the fuel. If the outer packaging is not leak-tight, a liquid retainer in the form of a
leak-resistant lining, a plastic bag or equally effective retaining material must be used in the event of
a leak.
(b) in strong outer packaging.
