Information:

This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Campaign on the above-mentioned vehicles. There is a
possibility that the vacuum line on the change-over valve for the sound symposer can slip off on
the affected vehicles due to relative movements of the engine.
As a result, there is no guarantee that the sound symposer and other vacuum-controlled actuators on the
engine will function correctly. This causes the warning message "Fault cooling system" to be displayed in
the instrument cluster.

Required:

Replace vacuum line and clean-air line on the change-over valve for the sound symposer.

The VIN(s) can be checked by using PIWIS Vehicle Information link to verify if the campaign affects the
vehicle. This campaign is scope specific to the VIN! Failure to verify in PIWIS may result in an improper
repair. This campaign affects 646 vehicles in North America.

Information
To avoid malfunctions as a result of vacuum lines slipping off, the following points must be observed
when fitting vacuum lines:
•

Route vacuum lines without tension

•

Push vacuum lines into the connection pieces as far as the marking (approx. 10 mm)

•

If there is no marking at the ends of the vacuum line (e.g. on lines available by the meter), a
marking must be made 10 mm from each end of the vacuum line using a water-resistant pen.

•

Only use water – if required – as a sliding compound when fitting vacuum lines

•

If vacuum lines have to be cut to size, only shorten them using cutting pliers (e.g. VAS 6228 cutting pliers) or a Stanley knife to avoid crushing them

Make a marking on the vacuum line 

Cut the vacuum line  Making vacuum line
-1- at the marked position using VAS 6228
- cutting pliers or a Stanley knife. Only the
part with the shrink-fit quick connector is
required for carrying out the campaign.

Make a marking on the 113-mm length of

-1-10 mm from the end of the line 

Release vacuum line  Replacing vacuum
line -1- at the left quick connector 
Replacing vacuum line -2- and disconnect it.
Information
The vacuum line at the side connection on the
change-over valve for the sound symposer
must not be replaced. If necessary, check
and make sure that the vacuum line and the
angled pipe on the change-over valve are
fitted correctly.

Replacing vacuum line
Carefully pry vacuum line  Replacing vacuum line -1- off the lower connection for the
change-over valve for the sound symposer  Replacing vacuum line -3- using a slotted
screwdriver and remove vacuum line.

Connect the new vacuum line you made earlier in Step 1  Replacing vacuum line -1- at the
left quick connector  Replacing vacuum line -2- until the quick connector engages.
Check that the vacuum line has engaged correctly in the quick connector by trying to pull off
the line.

4.5

Position angled pipe of the vacuum line  Replacing vacuum line -1- at the lower connection
on the change-over valve  Replacing vacuum line -3- and fit it on as far as it will go.
Make sure that the vacuum line remains pushed into the angled pipe as far as the marking.

4.6

Position change-over valve for sound symposer  Replacing vacuum line -3- on the air
cleaner housing and connect it until the locking hook engages.

Install new clean-air line, Porsche Part No. 000.043.209.39, for the vacuum system.
5.1

Connect new clean-air line  Installing
clean-air line -1- at the right quick connector
 Installing clean-air line -2- until the quick
connector engages.
Check that the clean-air line has engaged
correctly in the quick connector by trying to
pull off the line.

5.2

Connect angled pipe  Installing clean-air
line -3- at the centre outlet of the clean-air line
as far as it will go onto the upper connection
on the change-over valve for the sound
symposer  Installing clean-air line -5-.

5.3

Installing clean-air line

Connect angled pipe  Installing clean-air line -4- at the end of the clean-air line as far as it
will go onto the connection on the air cleaner housing.
