WF23 - Removing Water Drain Valves On Air Cleaner Housing (Workshop Campaign)

Water drain valves on air cleaner housing

Information:

This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Campaign on the above-mentioned vehicles. In certain
environmental conditions, e.g. during heavy rain, there is a possibility that water can get into
the air cleaner housing via the engine compartment lid on the affected vehicles. Depending on
how much water has leaked in, the water may not be able to drain away quickly enough through
the water drain valves provided for this purpose.
As a result, there is a possibility that the air cleaner will age prematurely because of the increased wet
and dry phases. This can cause reduced filter throughput and the customer may notice reduced engine
power as a result.

Action
Required:

Remove water drain valves on the air cleaner housing to guarantee that the water that has leaked in can
drain away fully.

vehicle. This campaign is scope specific to the VIN! Failure to verify in PIWIS may result in an improper
repair. This campaign affects 336 vehicles in North America.

Information
The fastening pins  Fastening pins for water drain
valves -1- for the water drain valves  Fastening pins for
water drain valves -2- can break off and fall into the air
cleaner housing if the water drain valves are not pulled
off carefully.
If this happens, the air cleaner housing must be
opened and the broken fastening pins must be removed
from the air cleanerhousing.

Remove all four water drain valves on the underside

Warranty claims should be submitted via WWS/PQIS.
Open campaigns may be checked by using either the PIWIS Vehicle Information system or through PQIS
Job Creation.
Labor, parts, and sublet will be automatically inserted when Technician is selected in WWS/PQIS. If
necessary, the required part numbers will need to be manually entered into warranty system by the dealer
administrator.

The specified working time was determined specifically for carrying out this campaign and may differ
from the working times published in the Labor Operation List in PIWIS.
