HAMSAR HIGH MOUNT BRAKE LIGHT WATER INTRUSION
CONDITIONS

Customer Complaint:
Hamsar has notified Motor Coach Industries ("MCI") that the potential may exist for the high mount brake
light to fail due to water intrusion.

Cause:
Delamination of the back plate sealant may result in water intrusion and damage to internal components of the
light assembly.

Corrective Action:
As a result, MCI strongly urges owners of the MY 2014, MY 2015, MY 2016 and MY2017 J4500 model coaches
listed in this bulletin to implement the steps in this procedure as soon as possible.

1. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
2. Chock both sides of the tires.
3. Locate the existing high mount brake lights on the upper section of the coach rear cap.

4. Remove and retain the high mount brake light mounting hardware.
5. Disconnect and discard the high mount brake light.
6. Using a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water, clean the installation area.

Allow enough time for the mixture to flash off the installation area.

7. Orient the new high mount brake light, p/n 07-07-1759, and connect the harness plug.
8. Apply butyl tape to seal the exposed area around the plug connection.

Do not over-torque the screws, as the additional torque stress will damage the light.

9. Using the existing well nuts and screws removed in Step 4, install the high mount brake light to the rear cap
of the coach. Torque to 8 in-lbs.

10. Repeat installation steps to remaining high mount brake light.
11. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
12. Enter the drivers area and initiate the pre-trip inspection feature. Exit the cabin and proceed to the rear of
the coach to verify high mount brake light actuation.

Field Change Program Conditions:
The parts required for this rework will be supplied without charge.
A labor allowance of 0.2 hours will be granted for this rework on affected J4500 coaches.
This labor allowance will be credited to your MCI Fleet Support Parts Account on receipt of the attached “MCI Field
Change Program Verification Form” and a “Warranty Claim Form” as detailed in your Owner Warranty manual to
MCI’s Warranty department. A “MCI Field Change Program Verification Form” needs to be submitted for each VIN
affected. Photocopy the attached “MCI Field Change Program Verification Form” as required for the number of
affected coaches in your fleet.
This program will end on August 25, 2017.
