DESCRIPTION
During service of FPB Quadraulic Caliper Brake Linings and for uneven lining wear greater than 1/4"
between inner and outer pad on the same wheel end it is recommended to use OEM material , MA707 or
MA708 (based on GVWR / application, see parts by vin), and service must include replacement of the wear
plates and retainer anti-rattle spring. Both sides will need to be serviced at the same time ( service by axle).
Clean plate mating surfaces prior to installation.
INSPECTION STEPS
OnTrac must be notified of any caliper/pad wear issue (even under $150).

Before contacting OnTrac, please obtain the following information. Send photos using e-mail in proper format – limit
total file size to 5MB.
NOTE
The caliper is in the wheel and not easily seen thru hand holes or from the underside of the vehicle.
1. Record general OnTrac or Navistar claim data:
VIN, in-service date, mileage – or complete OnTrac precall worksheet.
2. Why is the unit in for service/what is the driver’s concern? Was there any performance issue? Is the ABS light on?
3. Has the unit been serviced prior to this event? If so, what type of service and when?
4. Record wheel end location reported having issue (Right/Left, Front/Rear, RF=right front). Is the concern evident at other
wheel ends?
5. After wheel has been removed, take a photo of the caliper assembly mounted "As Is".

6. Remove brake pad retainer. Take photos of the caliper with the pads installed to show wear condition of the pads by position
(inboard/outboard brake pads).
7. Report condition of the wear plates (clean, worn, corrosion, material build up). The wear plate is a stamped stainless steel
plate that the brake pads seat against and slide on.
8. Use a .002" feeler gage and check the clearance between the brake pad backing plate and the wear plate. Confirm a gap
exists for the full length of the brake pad backing plate and wear plate. Check both ends of both pads. Record gap or note any
clearance issue.
9. Check to see if the brake pads move freely in the caliper.
10. Remove pads and label when removing. Example label scheme LFI = Left Front Inboard (Left/Right, Front/Rear,
Inboard/Outboard). Note if the pads were removed easily or what was required to remove the pads.
WARNING
– DO NOT APPLY BRAKES WITH PADS REMOVED.
11. Take photos of the brake pad friction surface and rotor friction surface (both sides, labeled inboard and outboard).
12. Record all three lines of text stamped on the brake pad backing plate as shown below:
