Some customers may comment on the following conditions:

•

The coolant fans not working.

•

A noise and/or growl from the coolant fan motor.

•

Engine overheating and/or poor A/C performance.

This may be caused by one or more of the following conditions:

•

The coolant fan motor mounting bolts becoming loose.

•

The coolant fan motor mounting bolts may be missing.

•

The coolant fan motor mounting bolts contacting the fan blade.

•

The coolant fan motor current draw is too high.

•

The passenger compartment air filter poor performance.

Correction
If the passenger compartment air filter has poor performance, replace the filter and re-check the A/C. Refer to Passenger Compartment Air Filter Replacement
in SI.
If any coolant fan motor bolts are loose or missing or if the coolant fan motor fuse is blown, replace the coolant fan motor(s). Refer to Engine Coolant Fan
Motor Replacement in SI.
If no bolts are loose or missing, or if the fuse is not blown, technicians should measure the coolant fan motor current draw. Check the coolant fan motor(s)
current draw using a suitable tool at the wire harness as shown following the steps below:

Service Procedure for 2011-2013 Model Years

1.

Open the hood and remove the insulation from the coolant fan motor wiring harness.

2.

Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.

Note: If the coolant fan motor(s) draw less than the maximum amperage allowed, do not replace.

Vehicles equippedwithout a pulse width module (2011-2013), check for amperage draw at the individual wiring harnesses to the cooling fan motors.
If either of the fan motors draw more than 26 amps, replace both of the fan motors. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Motor Replacement in SI.

3.

While the engine is running, use a Tech 2 and select: Powertrain>Engine Control Module> Special Functions>Output Control>Cooling Fan>Fan Relays
1,2 and 3.

4.

Select the “On” soft key to command these 3 relays on and to power up the coolant fan motors on high speed.

5.

Read the current draw off of the blue wire.

6.

Read the current draw off of the white wire.

7.

Reinstall the wire harness insulation.

Service Procedure for 2014-2016 Model Years
1.

Open the hood and remove the insulation from the coolant fan motor wiring harness.

2.

Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
Note: If the coolant fan motor(s) draw less than the maximum amperage allowed, do not replace.

Vehicles equipped with the pulse width module (2014-2016), check for amperage draw at the wiring harness before the module. Each fan must be
checked individually by disconnecting one of the harnesses at the pulse width module (1).

•

If either of the fan motors draw more than 24 amps, replace both the fan motors. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Motor Replacement in SI.

3.

While the engine is running, use a GDS and select: Powertrain>(Engine Option)>Engine Control Module> Control Functions>Cooling Fans.

4.

Select the “90%” soft key to command the pulse width module on and to power up the coolant fan motors.

5.

Read the current draw off of the red/yellow wire.

6.

Read the current draw off of the black wire.

7.

Reinstall the wire harness insulation.

Press Trip/Fuel button (1) until Engine Run and Engine Idle are displayed.

2.

The display will show the total number of hours the engine has run and the total number of hours the engine has been at idle.
