Description of the technical issue
 As previously expressed in SVC-12-003, Ducati has decided to implement a new engine coolant type.
The product - AGIP PERMANENT SPEZIAL - has been tested under all use conditions and outperforms
the previous coolant. Ducati decided to extend the service of free replacement of the coolant for the
Diavel model. Customers will then have the chance to update their motorcycles free of charge (Ducati
will refund both fluid and labor cost). Dealers are required to replace the coolant on specified M.Y.
2011, M.Y. 2012 and M.Y. 2013 Diavels free of charge to the Owner (for both coolant and labor).

The innovative features of this product provide improved protection for all parts contacting it. This coolant is
easily recognizable by its pink color, it is pre-diluted and ready for use, and it must be changed every 48
months or 30,000 miles/ 48,000 km.

TECHNICAL SOLUTION
 On the affected units it is necessary to carry out the following interventions:
NOTE
It is also possible to fill the cooling
system
by
means of
vacuum
pneumatic equipment. This equipment
is reliable and easy to use. Vacuum is
created in the system and prevents air
bubbles with no need to start the
engine while filling the circuit.
This product is supplied by Würth with
part number 0714 55 16.

CAUTION
Carefully read and follow the filling and bleeding procedure of the cooling
system, exactly as described in these instructions.
Failure to comply with this procedure could result in air bubbles in the
cooling system, leading to overheating problems at low rpm or at
idling.

Disassembly:
1)

Remove the RH air scoop (A) by loosening the front screws (1) and side screws (2).
Apply a film of protective paper masking tape (B) on the tank central cover (C), along the
jointing line with cover (D), as shown in the figure. Remove the external screw (3) retaining
cover (D).

2)

Remove the internal screw (4) retaining cover and collect the washer (5).

Remove the cover (D) moving it to the front side and then up, so as to disengage hooks (E)
from rubber blocks (F).

Draining the coolant
1)

Remove the filler cap (6) and cap (7) from expansion reservoir.

2)

Remove drain cap (11) from water pump cover and let coolant drain out.

3)

With the MOTORCYCLE ON THE SIDE STAND loosen screw (8) to slacken clamp (9),
disconnect hose (10) connecting horizontal head to water pump cover and drain the coolant.

To complete the draining procedure, lightly press with your hands on the coolant system
connection hoses, at various points.
Refit hose (10) and tighten screw (8) on clamp (9) to a torque of

2.5 Nm ± 10%

4)

Using a syringe, remove all the remaining coolant from the expansion reservoir.

5)

Refit drain cap (11) on water pump cover and tighten it to a torque of 19 Nm ± 10%.

Filling the coolant
1)

Diavel cooling system capacity is 3.2 litres, during the fluid change procedure 3 liters of coolant
will be necessary. Nevertheless, measure the quantity of fluid drained so as to fill in the same
quantity.
CAUTION
Fill the system with at least the same quantity of fluid drained; if this
is not possible and some of the calculated fluid cannot be filled, it
might mean that the filling and bleeding procedure was not carried
out correctly.
CAUTION
Always shake the bottle of AGIP PERMANENT SPEZIAL before use,
especially after a long storage period.

2)

With the motorcycle in a vertical position, fill the cooling system VERY SLOWLY through the
radiator hose until it is full; compress water hoses with your hands to help any air bubbles out.
Top up until radiator hose is completely full.

3)

TILT THE MOTORCYCLE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO THE LEFT SIDE; compress water hoses
with your hands to help any air bubbles out.
Top up until radiator hose is completely full.

4)

TILT MOTORCYCLE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO THE RIGHT SIDE; compress water hoses
with your hands to help any air bubbles out.
Top up until radiator hose is completely full.

5)

LIFT THE FRONT WHEEL OFF THE GROUND USING A LIFT AND SUITABLE RETAINING
EQUIPMENT; lift the front wheel at least 80-90 cm and compress water hoses with your hands
to help any air bubbles out.
Top up until radiator hose is completely full.

6)

LOWER THE MOTORCYCLE, close radiator cap and complete filling of coolant in the expansion
reservoir, taking the fluid level to the MAX top notch.
CAUTION
To correctly check coolant level in the expansion reservoir, the
motorcycle must be at a right angle to the ground and not on the
side stand.

7)

Start the motorcycle without fitting the cap (7) on expansion reservoir.

8)

Warm up until triggering the cooling fans. In this way, the last air bubbles will come out of the
circuit.

9)

Close the expansion reservoir with cap (7).

10) Allow the motorcycle to completely cool down and check coolant level through the radiator cap
and top up, if necessary.

Reassembly
1)

Lubricate the two rubber blocks (F) on tank central cover (C). Position cover (D) and engage
hooks (E) in rubber blocks (F) by first pressing down and then moving toward the rear end,
until fully home.

Rubber lubricant

2)

Fit washer (5) on screw (4); tighten screw to a torque of 6 Nm ± 10%.

3)

Fasten cover (D) by starting external screw (3); tighten screw to a torque of 0.33 Nm ±
10%.

4)

Remove the protective paper masking tape (B) previously applied.
CAUTION
The protective paper masking tape (B) must remain in place for the
time strictly necessary to perform the described operations and shall
be removed immediately after reassembly is completed.

5)

Install the Rh air scoop (A), start screws (2) with pre-applied threadlocker and then start
screws (1)

NOTE
Please remember that screws with pre-applied threadlocker can be
reused for a maximum of 3 times, when they should not be cleaned
nor replaced. After the maximum limit is exceeded, it is necessary to
clean all threadlocker on the screws and apply an equivalent type of
Loctite.
Tighten the screws (2) to a torque of 2 Nm ±10% and the screws (1) to a torque of 1.5
Nm ± 10%.

TIME ALLOWANCE AND REIMBURSEMENT PROCEDURE



For this service you will be reimbursed 72-minutes labor (12 labor units); this time includes
customer acceptance and warranty claim time. A warranty claim for coolant change
reimbursement will be issued through the standard warranty claim procedure via the
Campaigns section of the DCS (the request form is already pre-filled and identified as CR098).
NOTE
Please note that it is necessary to enter each repair under warranty as an
individual warranty claim, using the specified fault and labor codes. This
process ensures that this product campaign has been actually completed
and will be correctly reported to government agencies.
NOTE
All NDCS claims that are submitted with the wrong claim type are subject
to rejection.
