SUBJECT: Supra Battery Cables / Fuel Lines Inspection and
Repair
To prevent diesel fuel leaks due to chaffed fuel lines, as well as to prevent electrical failure
from damaged wire or cable insulation; it is important to inspect and repair all electrical wires,
battery cables, and fuel lines during any service work or regular scheduled unit maintenance.
Note: As with all service work to be performed; the unit negative battery cable and the
standby power source must be removed and proper lock out/tag out procedures must
be used.




Unit Internal Inspection
For all Supra units, open and if necessary remove the engine (curb) side door.
Inspect each individual wire, cable and fuel line along their entire length for any visible
signs of chaffing. The inspection frequency should coincide with established scheduled
maintenance guidelines.

Unit External Inspection
After performing an internal inspection replace the engine (curb) side door and perform an
external inspection.
 Particular attention should be focused in the area of the door cut-out. Ensure no direct
contact between each individual wire, cable, and fuel line with the door cut-out. The
clamping hardware should be no closer than approximately 4 inches (100 mm) from the
unit to allow for proper routing. See Fig.1 Detail A
 Be sure to follow the entire travel path, including to the battery box and fuel tank. Ensure
that as the cables and lines travel from the unit adequate clamping is in place,
approximately every 12 inches (304 mm) to prevent contact with surfaces that could result
in damage. See Fig.1 Detail B

Unit Repair Methods
As the inspection is performed, areas of concern should be noted and repaired as outlined
below. For various repairs supplies listed in Table 1 are required.









Liquid electrical tape (purchase locally)
Harness cloth tape (P/N 02-00137-00)
Cable ty wraps (P/N 58-00079-00)
Cable ty wrap base (P/N 44-60061-00)
Edge guard (purchase locally)
Edge guard ty wrap base (P/N 58-01428-00)
LOCTITE 243 thread lock for bottom panel screws
(purchase locally)
Couplings for fuel lines (P/N 40-00349-00,-01)

Note: After each repair, it is important to address the routing and attachment to ensure no further
contact is made with surfaces that can cause damage.

Fuel Line Repair
If the fuel line is damaged it should be replaced entirely or repaired only at the damaged
location. In the instance of repair, two options exist:
 If the fuel line is only slightly abraded and there is no visible sign of fuel leakage, textile
harness tape (P/N 02-00137-00) can be applied around the fuel line in two or three layers.

If the fuel line is damaged to the point that signs of fuel leakage are visible the line must
be repaired. The most effective means to repair the line is simply to cut out the damaged
section and install a fuel line union or coupling (P/N 40-00349-00 or -01).

Electrical Wire Repair
In the event of wire chaffing or damage; small diameter wires can either have the affected
area cut out and a heat shrink style splice with heat melt adhesive can be applied or simply
apply the liquid electrical tape over the affected area. If only surface abrasion has occurred,
the textile harness tape will prevent any further damage. See Fig.3

Battery Cable Repair
Visually inspect the battery cables along the entire length from the unit to the battery box.
Repair or replace the cable referencing the following guidelines to determine correct repair
procedures or replace. See Table 2
Type of damage
If insulation is damaged but no
conductors are exposed
If insulation is damaged and conductors
are exposed but not damaged
If insulation is damaged and 3 or more
conductors are cut
