Description
The AMP 2‐Way and 31‐Way connectors used on the WABCO Full Power Brake module and the AMP 24‐Way connectors used for the
Engine/Transmission Dash connectors and other chassis applications all require the same tool and technique to depin the terminals from
the connector bodies. The three styles of connectors are shown in Figure 1 with the connector slide locks (red) in the open position.

The tool needed to depin the terminals on these connectors is shown in Figure 2. The appropriate tool part number and description is
2592689C91, Tool, Terminal EXTR‐AMP 24‐Way. In the event the AMP tool is not available, Figure 2 also shows a small (size 1) paper clip
that has been bent to the approximate configuration to be used in place of the AMP tool. Either will work to remove the terminals from
the AMP connectors.

Before the terminals in a 24‐Way and 31‐Way connector can be depinned, the secondary pin retaining clips must be removed. See Figures
3 and 4 for the secondary clip locations. The 2‐Way connectors do not have secondary retaining clips.
24‐WAY SECONDARY RETAINING CLIP REMOVAL
See Figure 3 for secondary retaining clip location. The clip must be pried away from the ends of the connector to allow it to be pulled away
from the rear of the connector. Once removed the terminals can be depinned and removed from the backside of the connector.

To slide the clips out of the connector body, a pointed object such as a straightened paper clip, small pocket knife, or a thin nail point
should be inserted into the rectangular notches at the ends of the terminal housing as shown in Figure 5. The point should engage the
rectangular holes at the end of the slides and leveraged against the terminal housing to slide the retaining clips out of the connector
housing.
31‐WAY SECONDARY RETAINING CLIP REMOVAL
See Figure 4 for the locations of the two secondary retaining clip locations. The retaining clips slide into the connector body from either
side and are not interchangeable. Note that the yellow clip (shown partially removed) is used on the end that has the red slide lock and
that the orange clip (shown partially removed) is used on the opposite end with one row of small terminals and one of large terminals.

DEPINNING THE TERMINALS
Figure 6 shows a 24‐Way AMP connector with the depinning tool inserted in one terminal location and a modified small paper clip inserted
into another. To depin the connector terminals apply pressure from the backside on the wire to be removed to release the tabs from the
connector body, then insert the two prongs of the removal tool (or paper clip) on either side of the terminal until it bottoms out. Initially
the tool will stop when it contacts the lock tabs on the terminal, then apply additional pressure that will move the removal tool (or paper
clip) an additional 1/8 into the cavity. With the removal tool in this position the wire, terminal, and seal can be removed from the backside
of the connector. Figure 6 shows a 24‐Way connector, the 2‐Way and 31‐Way connector terminals are removed using the same tool and
technique.
