Introduction
Some 2013 – 2015 model year RAV4 vehicles may exhibit a grinding noise condition which is
heard coming from the rear wheels while driving the vehicle at low speed and applying the
brakes. This is due to corrosion build-up from overnight soak on rear rotors causing a grinding
noise during braking which is transmitted throughout the vehicle. To reduce this grinding noise,
use the following repair procedure to address this condition.

Grinding Noise From Rear Brakes
Repair Procedure
1. This Service Bulletin is for brake grinding noise. Please refer to the video file below for an
example of the noise. If noise matches the video, please reference step 2.
NOTE
Confirmation of standard brake noise related items is necessary prior to continuing with
the Grinding noise confirmation noise video.
Grinding noise evident at/about the following timed points:
20 – 24 seconds
35 – 37 seconds
47 – 50 seconds
58 – 60 seconds

2. Remove floor mat support side, and deck side trim for both LH and RH.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model and model year
Repair Manual:

3. Install the NEW floor mat support side, and Deck side trim for both LH and RH sides.

4. Ensure all rear panels are clipped in correctly and then perform a road test to confirm the
grinding noise has been reduced.
