SUBJECT

: Protection of control panel switches in engine
compartment

TERMS & CONDITIONS

: No reimbursement will be awarded for carrying out
this product improvement.

APPLICATION:
As from following units, Van Hool have moved the control panel in the engine compartment from
upon to beside the toilet service door (refer to figures 1 and 2).

DESCRIPTION:
1. Service records have shown that in the previous design the lower switches of the control panel
are subject to damage when someone tries to close the rear engine compartment door while
the toilet service door is still open.
2. To address this issue, installation of a guard is necessary on vehicles with the control panel
upon the toilet service door.
3. Please refer to the material list and step-by-step instructions from the procedure below if you
want to install this guard.

PROCEDURE
1. Preparations

Park the coach safely, apply the parking brake, stop the engine, switch off all systems and
turn off the battery master switch.
Put a “DO NOT OPERATE” tag on the instrument panel.
Read the entire procedure before beginning to work.

WARNING!
Observe safe shop practices at all times.

2. To check condition of switches on toilet service door

Open the engine compartment door.
Make sure that the switches located on the toilet service door are working properly.
Open the toilet service door.
Check the condition of the switches and their electrical wiring (insulation, loose or oxidized
connections). Change not properly operating or corroded switches. Repair damaged
electrical wiring.

3. To install guard
1) Open the engine compartment door.
2) Remove the two lower fasteners of the control panel.
3) Install the guard over the lower switches as indicated in figure 4. Use the same fasteners.
