WC44 - Replacing Cage With Float (Workshop Campaign)

Information:

This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Campaign on the above-mentioned vehicles. There is the
possibility that the float in the coolant filler neck is not designed correctly on the affected vehicles. As a
result, the coolant level is not displayed correctly when adding coolant.

Required:

Replace cage with float in coolant filler neck on service tray.

Remove cage with float from the coolant filler neck.

Insert a screwdriver into the cage ⇒
Removing cage with float -1- to the left of
the red display head on the float ⇒ Removing
cage with float -2- and guide it into the
gap between the two ribs of the cage ⇒
Removing cage with float -arrow-. Then bend
the ribs in slightly ⇒ Removing cage with float
-3- in order to pull the ribs of the cage over
the locking lug on the coolant filler neck.
(The position of the screwdriver is shown on
the removed cage for reasons of clarity.)

Lift the cage together with the float up out of
the coolant filler neck.

The new cage with float, Part No. 981.106.155.00, has a
marking on the lower edge of the cage ⇒ New cage with
marking -1-.

Install new cage with float, Part No.
981.106.155.00, in the coolant filler neck.
4.1

Position the cage so that the float can be
guided into the opening on the coolant filler
neck and the locking lug on the coolant filler
neck ⇒ Installing cage with float -1- engages
in the gap between the ribs of the cage
directly to the left of the red display head on
the float ⇒ Installing cage with float -2- (⇒
Installing cage with float -arrow-).

4.2

Press cage with float into the coolant filler
neck and check that it is seated securely.

4.3

Check that the float can move freely.
To do this, pull up the float at the red display
head ⇒ Installing cage with float -2- and
check that it can move freely.
