WB26 - Reworking Tension Rope for Convertible Top Rooflining (Workshop Campaign)

Information:

This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Campaign on certain 2011 911 Speedster (997) vehicles.
There is the possibility that the tension rope for the convertible top rooflining may get caught on the
linkage when operating the convertible top. As a result, this may cause the tension rope to break and the
convertible top rooflining in the rear area will not be tensioned when the convertible top is closed.

Action
Required:

Depending on the scope assigned to the vehicle in the PIWIS VIN Information, secure the tension rope
for the rooflining to the convertible-top linkage using an additional element (rubber cord ring) and rework
the end piece of the tension rope ⇒ Technical Information ’WB2600 Scope 1’ or only rework the end
piece of the tension rope ⇒ Technical Information ’WB2600 Scope 2’.

vehicle. This Campaign is scope specific to the VIN! Failure to verify in PIWIS may result in an improper
repair.

Scope 1: Securing tension rope for the rooflining to the convertible-top linkage using an additional element (rubber cord ring) and reworking end piece of the tension rope
Information
Rework the rubber cord ring and the end piece of the tension rope on both sides of the convertible top.
The figures show the installation procedure on the left side of the vehicle in direction of travel. Installation
must be carried out in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

Unscrew fastening screw ⇒ Figure 1

If necessary, take suitable measures to
prevent the fastening screw from falling into
the plenum panel as you unscrew it (e.g.
place a cloth in the plenum panel).

To do this, clean the bonding area on the
convertible top bow (the area must be free
of grease) and position the tricot tape in
such a way that it starts above the fastening
hole for the tension rope guide eyelet ⇒

top bow approx. 2 cm away from the hole
towards the exterior of the vehicle ⇒ Figure 3

Guide the rubber cord ring ⇒ Figure 5 -Pos.

the tension rope, which has already been
guided in.
To do this, feed the rubber cord ring behind
the electric line that is installed there ⇒
Figure 5 -Pos. 2- and through the opening
between the two convertible top bows ⇒
Figure 5 -Arrow-.
Make sure that the rubber cord ring is guided
under the upper convertible top bow ⇒
Figure 5 -Pos. 3-.
Secure the rubber cord ring ⇒ Figure 6
-Pos. 1- together with the guide eyelet on
the tension rope ⇒ Figure 6 -Pos. 2- to the
convertible top bow using the new fastening
screw from the rooflining guide repair kit ⇒
Figure 6 -Arrow-. Tightening torque 3 Nm
(2ftlb.)
When tightening the fastening screw, make
sure that the fastening eyelet of the rubber
cord ring ⇒ Figure 6 -Pos. 1- - as shown in

2- is facing downwards at a 45° angle.

Mark the end piece of the tension rope at ⇒
Figure 7 -Distance A = 18 cm- using a white
marker and measuring tape. Then cut the
tension rope at the marking using a scissors.

Pull shrink-fit hose ⇒ Figure 8 -Pos. 2- up
over the tension rope you have just cut ⇒
Figure 8 -Pos. 1- (⇒ Figure 8 -Arrow-).

Overlap the cut end of the tension rope ⇒
Figure 9 -Pos. 2- with the loose end of the
new end piece from the repair kit ⇒ Figure 9
-Pos. 1- and insert them into the insulated
cable connection ⇒ Figure 9 -Pos. 3-. Then
press the insulated cable connection together
securely using crimping pliers ⇒ Figure 9

The ends of the rope must overlap over
the entire length of the insulated cable
connection.
The two outer and inner crimping lugs of the
insulated cable connection must be bent over
and pressed together completely using the
