WD28 - Replacing Wind Deflector (Workshop Campaign)

Information:

This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Campaign on the above-mentioned vehicles. There is a
possibility that the wind deflector will not reach its end position when closing the convertible
top in the event of unfavourable tolerances on the affected vehicles.
As a result, the convertible top cannot be closed completely.
To prevent this, the wind deflector on the affected vehicles was greased as an immediate step as part of
workshop campaign WC40.
In the course of this new campaign, the wind deflector must be replaced with a technically optimised wind
deflector as a long-term effective measure.
Information
If the convertible top cannot be closed because the wind deflector cannot be lowered, the wind deflector
can be lowered manually.
To do this, press the wind deflector button in the center console and press the wind deflector to the rear
with your hand at the same time.

Replace wind deflector.

Vehicles:

The VIN(s) can be checked by using PIWIS Vehicle Information link to verify if the campaign affects the
vehicle. This campaign is scope specific to the VIN! Failure to verify in PIWIS may result in an improper
repair. This campaign affects 1,747 vehicles in North America.

There is no need to grease the new wind deflector.

Please note the following points with regard to implementing and invoicing the campaign:

If workshop campaign WC40 was already carried out on a vehicle, the wind deflector still has to be
replaced as part of this campaign.

•

Workshop campaign WC40 has been deactivated in the system for vehicles on which workshop
campaign WC40 has not yet been carried out at the time of publication of this campaign. This
new campaign must be carried out on these vehicles instead of workshop campaign WC40 and
the wind deflector must be replaced.

•

Workshop campaign WC40 has not been deactivated in the system for vehicles for which a
PQIS job has already been created for workshop campaign WC40, but the campaign has not
yet been invoiced. If a PQIS job has only been created for workshop campaign WC40, but the
work required for the campaign has not yet been done, this campaign must be carried out
and invoiced instead of workshop campaign WC40. This must be documented accordingly in the
PQIS job for workshop campaign WC40. Workshop campaign WC40 must be marked as 'cannot
be carried out' with the reason “Modification of the affected component”. The "Warranty
relevance”" flag must be activated in order to be able to set a warranty claim for workshop
campaign WC40 and close the campaign. A warranty claim must be submitted for workshop
campaign WC40 in which 0 TU is entered as the specified working time and no material items are
specified.

Remove trim panel for rear wall.

Fold rear-seat backrests forward.

Carefully lever off trim panel for rear wall
using a screwdriver and unclip it by pulling
it forward  Figure 1 -arrows-.

Remove trim panel for rear wall.

Remove rear cover.

Disengage flaps  Figure 2 -1- on cover for
roll-over protection system at the rear and
swivel them forward.

Unclip the cover and remove it by pulling it

The seat belt mount does not have to be loosened when
removing the rear side trim panel.

Install rear cover.
Installation is performed in reverse order to removal.
Tightening torque:

+/-0.2 Nm (+/-0.1 ftlb.)

10 Install trim panel for rear wall.
Installation is performed in reverse order to removal.
11 Close the convertible top fully.
12 Enter the workshop campaign in the Warranty and Maintenance booklet.

Warranty claims should be submitted via WWS/PQIS
Open campaigns may be checked by using either the PIWIS Vehicle Information system or through PQIS
Job Creation.
Labor, parts, and sublet will be automatically inserted when Technician is selected in WWS/PQIS. If
necessary, the required part numbers will need to be manually entered into warranty system by the dealer
administrator.
