Condition
Some customers may comment on a groan, squeak and/or rubbing type noise heard
when turning the steering wheel.
Cause
This condition may be due to the inner and/or outer intermediate steering shaft boots
(seals) being out of position.
Correction
Service Procedure
Inspect the intermediate steering shaft inner and outer
boots (seal) for being out of position following the
procedure below.

1. Remove the intermediate steering shaft boot (seal)
(outer). Verify that the intermediate shaft boot
bushing is completely contained within the rubber
boot. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Boot
Replacement (Outer) in SI.

2. Remove the intermediate steering shaft boot (seal)
(inner). Confirm that the bearing is properly seated
inside the rubber boot. Refer to Intermediate
Steering Shaft Boot Replacement (Inner) in SI.
