Using Aerosol As Touch-Up
Paint
Touch-up paint is typically sold in a bottle that
includes a small applicator brush. But what if all
you have available is an aerosol spray paint? The
trick is to spray a small amount of paint into a
small paper cup until it puddles, and then apply
the paint with small paint brush or "touch-up nib"
available from automotive paint suppliers.
To avoid making a mess and wasting paint, spray
the paint through a toilet paper roll (or similar)
directly into the cup. This keeps the aerosol from
scattering the paint everywhere. This same method
can be used to directly apply spray paint to a small
area without having to mask off the surrounding
areas. Just be sure to do a test "spray-out" on a
piece of cardboard so that you develop a feel for
the technique before painting the actual part.

remove potentially flammable debris from the
under-body area. Grass, leaves, muskeg, and
other debris can accumulate atop the skid plates,
frame rails, A-arm guards, and even inside exhaust
shielding. The accumulation of this type of
debris can negatively affect vehicle performance and cause a crash and/or create a fire
hazard where someone can be seriously hurt
or killed. Please remind your service customers
to follow the Pre-Ride Inspection instructions
before each ride.
As an added service to your customers, it is suggested you clean out any built up debris each time
you work on their machine. Make a note on the
repair order of this service for customer reference.
Sales staff must review the Pre-ride Inspection
Checklist within the Is Your Vehicle Ready to Ride
section of the Owner's Manual with all new-unit
customers, as required by the ATV and SxS Salesperson Delivery Checklists.

Starter

Engine Noise After a Recoil
Starter Installation?
Note that the recoil starter pulley is keyed to the
flywheel. When installing the recoil pulley through
the rear main seal, make sure to carefully index
the pulley to the flywheel by rotating it until the
flats are aligned and the pulley "drops" into the
flywheel as shown.

3. Remove radiator mounting bolts (no need to
drain the radiator).
4. Remove overflow tube from the radiator side
and plug it.
5. Secure the radiator rearward as shown.
6. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Failure to properly index the pulley and flywheel
will result in a deformed flywheel boss when the
flywheel bolt is fully torqued. This deformation will
place undo load on the inner race of the flywheel
bearing, inside the rear engine cover, causing the
bearing to squeal and fail. This could be an expensive comeback repair as the bearing, flywheel, and
probably, the recoil pulley will have to be replaced.

2014 & Later VFRBOOF/FD

Idle Speed Adjustment
The engine idle speed (1200 ±100 rpm) on
VFRS00F/FD is manually adjustable with the throttle stop screw. Contrary to the procedure shown in
the Service Manual, it is not necessary to remove
the left under cowl to gain access to the screw.
Just squat down along the left side of the bike and
look inside the left under cowl to find the throttle
stop screw as shown.

Easier Valve Cover Access
Here's a tip for making valve clearance checks/
adjustments go a little faster. Rather than remove
the fuel tank to gain access to the valve cover, and
all the things associated with that procedure, simply do the following:
1. Remove left side body covers.
2. Remove radiator grill.
