Product Update/Warranty Extension: 2013-14 Accord Electric Power Steering

Today, August 21, 2015, American Honda is announcing a product update and warranty extension for 285,623 Accord,
Accord FHEV and Accord PHEV vehicles to update the electric power steering ECU. In addition, American Honda is
providing extended warranty coverage on the EPS gearbox to 5 years, unlimited mileage to cover replacements in cases
where OTC 53-01 or 53-02 is set.
Basic Problem
Due to manufacturing issues, the torque sensor may not give a proper signal to the EPS unit which may lead to a loss of
steering assistance.
The Repair
Update the electric power steering ECU with enhanced software. In cases where OTC 53-01 or 53-02 is set, replace the
EPS gearbox. American Honda expects very few (< 250 nationally) vehicles will require gearbox replacement.
Service Bulletin
Service bulletins 15-055: Product Update: Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Software Update and 15-056: Warranty
Extension: EPS Torque Sensor (OTC 53-01 or OTC 53-02) have been posted to the Service Information System today in
support of these campaigns. They include parts, software, warranty update, and repair information related to the product
update and warranty extension.
Software Information
Pass Thru ECU Programming
PC Application Version: 5.01
Database date: Accord_Repro
This software is available as of today.
Parts Information
Replacement gearbox assemblies are available through the controlled parts ordering system. As American Honda
expects very few vehicles will require gearbox replacement, please do not place orders unless a vehicle exhibiting OTC
53-01 or 53-02 is identified.
Special Tools
The software flash tools to support this campaign were shipped to dealers on June 12, 2015.
Client Notification
American Honda expects to notify owners of affected vehicles in mid-September.
