!ssue: There are conditions where continuous noises can be heard through the front
speakers when rear windows are open or rear climate fans are on a high setting. Also,
an intermittent tapping/ rattle maybe heard.
Cause: This version of sound system supports Conversation Assist which enhances
conversations between front and rear occupants. Additional microphones installed in the
front roof speaker grilles and rear roof consoles can pick up unwanted noises and
amplify them through the sound system.
Wind noise from rear windows lowered or rear climate fans set high are picked up by
the rear microphones and amplified to the front door speakers. These noises can sound
like a continuous buffeting and is speed dependent due to conversation assist cutting in
above 30mph.
If an intermittent tapping/ rattle are heard through the front speakers, this can be an
effect of the rear microphone rattling in the rear roof consoles. Note - this can easily be
mistaken for a trim rattle in the front doors or cockpit.
Action: Any of these actions are recommended will eliminate the continuous buffeting
noise:
1. Turn off Conversation Assist in the Touch Screen 'Setup' menu.
2. Turn down rear climate fan speed.
3. Close rear windows.
If the noise is an intermittent tapping noise, then follow TOP Ix workshop manual to
assess microphones in rear consoles. Then apply a piece of foam to the rear of the
microphone to eliminate rattle to console housing.
