CONDITION SUMMARY:
[ \NOTE: during Intelligent Stop/Start operation, Driver Exit function prevents the vehicle from
being inadvertently left in a drivable condition, the vehicle will detect when a driver is not present
and automatically turn the ignition off. Please ensure the customer is aware of this feature and the
conditions required for it to operate as described in the Owner's Handbook.
Situation: One of the following issues may occur:
• The Gear Selector LED Indicator flashes and Neutral is involuntarily engaged when coming to
a stop or immediately alter an Automatic Engine Restart (when Intelligent Stop/Start is active).

• The Instrument Cluster has switched off alter an Automatic Engine Stop and Driver Exit
conditions do not exist and the vehicle does not automatically restart the engine upon release
of the brake pedal (NOTE. DTC P162F-00 may be stored in the Engine Control Module [ECM]).
Cause: This may be caused by the original ECM and Transmission Control Module (TCM) soltware which did
not provide optimized settings for the Intelligent Stop/Start function in all situations.

(ECM) and / or Transmission Control Module (TCM). Vehicles eligible may be updated in accordance
with this workshop procedure but must only be claimed under the open campaigns.

NOTE: the Transmission Control Module (TCM) update is not applicable to 2014MY Range Rover
Sport (L494; 3.0L SC V6).
Action: Should a customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION:

CAUTION: a Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply must be connected to
the vehicle battery during SDD diagnosis/ module programming.

CAUTION: ensure all ignition 'ON'/ ignition 'OFF' requests are carried out; failure to perform these
steps may cause damage to control modules in the vehicle.

NOTE: SDD must be loaded with DVD143.01 v.217 or later.

1Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply to the vehicle battery.

2Turn ignition 'ON' (engine not running).

3Connect the Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) system to the vehicle and begin a new session.

4Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing SDD to read the VIN and identify the vehicle and initiating the data

collect sequence.

SSelect 'Diagnosis' from the Session Type screen.

6Select the 'Selected Symptoms' tab and then select:

• Powertrain > Automatic transmission and transaxle > Gear selector malfunction > Gear position display
flashing
7Select 'continue'.

SSelect the 'Recommendations' tab, and then select 'Run' to perform the 'Configure existing module Transmission control module' option.

9Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.

• Powertrain > Automatic transmission and transaxle > Gear selector malfunction > Gear position display

13Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task, ensuring all DTCs are cleared.

14Exit the current session.

15Disconnect the SDD and the battery power supply from the vehicle.
