"ISSUE: FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT OF FRONT AIR STRUTS (FOR EXAMPLE PERFORMING LTB604V3/SSM71942) DEALERS / CUSTOMER MAY REPORT A NOISE OR A VEHICLE LEAN ERROR STATE. ON INVESTIGATION THE FRONT AIR SPRING IS FOUND TO BE MISALIGNED AND DAMAGED. SEE ATTACHED PHOTO CAUSE(S): INFLATION OF AIR SUSPENSION AIR SPRINGS WITH THE VEHICLE ON THE GROUND (NOT ON A WHEEL FREE LIFT) CAN CAUSE MISALIGNMENT AND CREASING OF THE AIR BAG. THE INFLATION PRESSURES ACTING ON THE CREASED AIR BAG CAN CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE."

Issue:
Following replacement of front Air Struts (for example performing
LTB604v3/SSM71942) Dealers / Customer may report a noise or a vehicle lean error
state. On investigation the front Air Spring is found to be misaligned and damaged. See
attached photo
Cause(s):
Inflation of Air Suspension Air Springs with the vehicle on the ground (not on a wheel
free lift) can cause misalignment and creasing of the Air Bag. The inflation pressures
acting on the creased Air Bag can cause permanent damage.
Handling of parts: There is also potential for damage to the Air Spring by handling by
the Gaiter (separation of an internal rubber bearing), therefore handling of the Air Strut
and Damper assembly should be by the metallic parts of the component only!
Action:
Please follow the updated TOPIx workshop manual installation procedure - 204-01:
Front Suspension - Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly (60.21.01) (60.30.25/99),
ensuring that the air spring is inflated, before the vehicle is lowered onto its wheels.
Always handle the Air Strut assembly it by the metallic parts of the component only!
Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component
