HISTORY AND SCOPE
Some 2017 Toyota Sienna vehicles converted by VMI may have been assembled with inadequate
clearance between the left front shear plate and the transmission cooler lines.
This may result in a transmission cooler line failure that may affect transmission response as
transmission fluid levels drop below recommended levels. This bulletin affects all 2017 model year
Toyota Siennas built from 11/9/16 through 2/9/17. This bulletin affects approximately 815 Toyota
Sienna vehicles and should be performed at the next scheduled maintenance. (REF VMI Internal doc.

FIXES INCORPORATED
Included are field repair instructions that will assist the technician to inspect the transmission cooler
line routing and, if necessary, affect the necessary repair. If a repair is required, it should take approx.

CONTENTS
1. Make a visual inspection of the
transmission cooler hose as it is
positioned directly above the
left front shear plate. If the hose
is contacting the shear plate or
has less than 3/8” clearance
follow the steps in the bulletin.
If there is adequate clearance
(3/8”or greater) there is no
further action required
2. If visual inspection shows the
transmission hose is less than ¼”
from the plate, remove the air
dam clip using a flathead
screwdriver.

3. Using your hand or a small pry
tool, push the transmission oil
thermostat upwards, bending
the mounting bracket and
moving the transmission hose
away from the shear plate.
4. Verify there is adequate (3/8” or
more) clearance between the
hose and the shear plate.

5. Replace the round clip
refastening the air dam.
