Front Brake 'Squeal' Noise

CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: On vehicles fitted with High Performance Brakes only, a 'squeal' noise may be evident from the front
brakes during low-speed, light to moderate braking, until the vehicles comes to a stop.
Cause: This may be caused by front brake pad resonance.
Action: Should a customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below.

NOTE: Front brake pad set part number LR039526 should be fitted to vehicles only where a customer
has reported the condition as described and not as a standard service replacement.

NOTE: Normal Warranty policies and procedures apply.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION:

NOTE: The brake pad wear warning indicator sensor does not require replacement if it is in a
satisfactory condition.

1.

CAUTION: Make sure that no load is placed on the brake hose.

CAUTION: Do not allow the brake caliper to hang on the brake pad wear warning sensor lead.

NOTE: Do not remove the brake hose union.
Remove the front right brake caliper (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, Section 206-03).
Tie caliper aside.
Remove and discard brake pads.

2.

NOTE: Make sure to thoroughly clean the
brake caliper pistons and piston seals; failure
to do so will reduce the effectiveness of this
Service Instruction.
Thoroughly clean all six (6) brake caliper pistons
and pistons seals with brake cleaner to remove all
traces of grease and dust.

3. Gently remove the backing from the new brake
pads.

NOTE: Do not apply grease to the piston
contact area.
Grease pad abutments at both ends with Molykote
C u- 7439+.

5.

CAUTION: The front brake caliper mounting bolts must be replaced.

NOTE: Make sure that the sticky surface on the brake pad comes cleanly into contact with the
brake caliper pistons.
Install the new brake pads and caliper (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 206-03).
Once the brake pads and caliper are fitted to the vehicle, apply light pressure to the brake pedal to achieve

a good bond.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 to the front left brake caliper.
