Summary
SOME CUSTOMERS MAY COMPLAIN OF A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND A/T WARNING LIGHT ON WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE. AT THE SAME TIME, AN ENGINE INSPECTION REQUIRED MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED ON THE LCD. DTC P0722:00 IS STORED IN THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) MEMORY. DTC P0722:00 (OPEN CIRCUIT IN OUTPUT SPEED SHAFT CIRCUIT) THE TCM CONTROL LOGIC HAS BEEN CHANGED TO ELIMINATE THIS CONCERN.

NOTE
• This bulletin has been revised to STOP TCM reprogramming of 2014 CX-5 with 2.5L. Otherwise, shifting problems will occur.

• This bulletin supersedes the previous bulletins 05-004/15 issued on 04/10/15, 04/02/15 and 05-004/13
issued on 05/24/13. The REPAIR PROCEDURE and WARRANTY INFORMATION have been revised.
• Changes are noted below in Red beside the change bar.

2014 Mazda6 automatic transaxle vehicles with VINs between JM1GJ******100001 - 116903 (produced up to
March 26, 2013)
2013-2014 CX-5 automatic transaxle vehicles with VINs between JM3KE******148076 - 335942 (produced up
to March 26, 2013)
DESCRIPTION
Some customers may complain of a Check Engine Light and A/T Warning Light ON when starting the engine.
At the same time, an Engine Inspection Required message is displayed on the LCD. DTC P0722:00 is stored in
the transmission control module (TCM) memory.
• DTC P0722:00 (open circuit in output speed shaft circuit)
The TCM control logic has been changed to eliminate this concern.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Confirm Snapshot Data by Self Test function using Mazda
Modular Diagnostic system (M-MDS). If the data
meets the following conditions, proceed to the next step. If NOT, this service information is not applicable.
Check the vehicle according to the MS3 online instructions or the Workshop Manual.
• TSS: More than 1,500 rpm
• OSS: 0 rpm
2. Reboot the IDS to clear memory before reprogramming.

3. Using IDS 95.01 or later software, reprogram the TCM to the latest calibration (refer to “Calibration Information” table) by following the “Module Reprogramming” procedure.

Although there is a TCM reflash available for 2014 CX-5 with 2.5L, DO NOT reflash
these TCMs. Otherwise, shifting problems will occur.
For 2014 CX-5 with 2.5L, replace the control valve body according to the instructions
on MS3 online or the Workshop Manual (section 05-17 CONTROL VALVE BODY
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

Verify the current TCM file name in the vehicle by the log view screen. If it is the same as found
in the chart below (or later), it is not necessary to reprogram the TCM.
Always update the IDS tool first, then follow the on-screen instructions to download the calibration file for TCM reprogramming.
Refer to “Service Caution for reprogramming” on MS3 IDS Page.
After reprogramming, verify the file name matches with the chart below.

Always update the IDS tool first, then follow on-screen instructions to download the needed calibration file for TCM reprogramming.
It is not necessary to remove any fuses or relays during TCM reprogramming when the IDS
screen prompts you to do so. You may accidentally stop power to one of the TCM terminals and
cause the TCM to be blanked, or you may receive error messages during the IDS reprogramming procedure.
IDS shows the calibration part numbers after programming the TCM.
Be aware that TCM calibration part numbers and file names listed in any Service Bulletin may
change due to future releases of IDS software, and additional revisions made to those calibrations for service related concerns.
When reprogramming a TCM, IDS will always display the “latest” calibration P/N available for
that vehicle. If any calibration has been revised/updated to contain new information for a new
service concern/issue, it will also contain all previously released calibrations.
On some models, the meter illumination goes out during TCM reprogramming.This is a normal
condition.
Start/Stop button vehicles only: DO NOT press the start/stop button during the reprogramming process.
When performing this procedure, we recommend using the “Power Supply” mode in the
Battery Management System to keep the vehicle battery up to capacity. If a different
charger is used, make sure it does not exceed 20 AMPS. If it exceeds 20 AMPS, it could
damage the VCM.
4. After performing the TCM reprogramming procedure, clear DTCs.
5. After clearing DTCs, start the engine and confirm that no warning lights stay on.

If any DTCs should remain after performing DTC erase, diagnose the DTCs using MS3 online
instructions or Workshop Manual.
After TCM reprogramming, it is no longer necessary to road test the vehicle to “relearn” KAM
(Keep Alive Memory).
6. After reprogramming is complete, perform the Initial Learning Procedure. Refer to MS3 online instructions or
Workshop Manual section 05-17.
