This concern may be due to a production variation. Some of the mode control wires (A) may be too long to
transmit movement from the mode selector dial to the link (B). The length of the mode control wire has been
shortened to eliminate this concern.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the customer concern.
2. Replace the mode control wire with a modified one according to the instructions on MS3 online or the Workshop Manual (section 07-40 CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MANUAL AIR CONDITIONER])
NOTE: If a modified mode control wire (part number: KD45-61-C35A) has already been installed on the
subject vehicle, it is not necessary to replace it again. However, the procedure below is still necessary to confirm proper functionality of the mode control wire.

- (C) OK: If only half of the boss is visible through the square hole, proceed to Step 7.
- (D) NG: If the boss is not visible through the square hole, proceed to Step 5.
5. Remove the E-ring (A) at the tip of the mode selector wire and reinstall it to a maximum of 2 mm away (B)
from the original position (C), as shown below.
CAUTION: If the E-ring is moved too far away from the original position, it will become difficult to select
other “VENT” modes.
6. Repeat Step 3 to verify the “Defroster Vents” mode stays firmly set in the proper position.
