DESCRIPTION
When the engine is started for the first time after parking the vehicle overnight in cold conditions (below 32
degrees Fahrenheit / 0 degrees Celsius), some vehicles may exhibit a rough idle and/or the check engine light
on with any of the following DTC(s) stored in memory.
• P0300 - Random misfire detected
• P0301 - Cylinder No.1 misfire detected
• P0302 - Cylinder No.2 misfire detected
• P0303 - Cylinder No.3 misfire detected
• P0304 - Cylinder No.4 misfire detected
This may be caused by frozen water accumulated in the main silencer, restricting exhaust flow.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern of water accumulated and frozen in the main silencer and the tail pipe.

2. Replace the main silencer. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual section 01-15:
• Mazda3 - EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5]
• Mazda6 - EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5]
• CX-5 - EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5]
3. Inspect the engine oil level. If the engine oil level is above the F mark, replace the engine oil.
4. Erase any stored DTC(s).
5. Verify repair.
