THIS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN INTRODUCES REVISED TROUBLESHOOTING FOR FAULT CODES 1921, 1922,1981, 2639, 2754, 3375, 3376 AND 5383. ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) CALIBRATIONS RELEASED IN NOVEMBER 2014 HAVE BEEN REVISED AND INCLUDE IMPROVED DIAGNOSTICS FOR THESE FAULT CODES.

Description of Change
The November 2014 electronic control module (ECM) calibrations have been revised and
includes improved diagnostics for fault codes 1921, 1922, 1981, 2639, 2754, 3375, 3376
and 5383.
ECM Calibration improvements include:

• The MAINTENANCE lamp will flash at key ON for 30 seconds when ash accumulation
reaches a maximum limit
Reason for Change
ECM calibrations released in November 2013 and later contain an ash adjustment feature.
ECM calibrations released in November 2014 contain improved ash adjustment feature
tuning.
Customer Communication
An ash adjustment feature was added to ECM calibrations released in November 2013 and
later. This feature compensates for ash accumulation in the aftertreatment diesel particulate
filter (DPF). When ash accumulation in the aftertreatment DPF reaches a set level, fault
code 5383 will set. This will also trigger the MAINTENANCE lamp to flash at key ON for 30
seconds. This indicates that the aftertreatment DPF must be cleaned or replaced and the
aftertreatment maintenance DPF reset be performed.
Service Directions
Troubleshooting fault codes 1921, 1922, 1981, 2639, 2754, 3375, 3376 and 5383 requires
the use of INSITE™ electronic service tool version 8.0.0 or higher and the use of the
Automated Diesel Particulate Filter Restriction Test.
• Verify INSITE™ electronic service tool version 8.0.0 or higher is used for
troubleshooting.
• Verify the ECM calibration revision level is November 2014 or later.
• Use the Automated Diesel Particulate Filter Restriction Test in INSITE™ when
directed.
• Troubleshoot and correct engine out smoke and fault codes 1921, 1922, 1981, 2639,
2754, 3375, and 3376 before returning a unit to a customer.
• Fault codes 2639 and 1921 are no longer maintenance fault codes and require engineout smoke troubleshooting.
• Use of the Aftertreatment Maintenance DPF Reset must be performed to reset ash
compensation following a DPF replacement.
• Do not use the Aftertreatment Maintenance Filter Installation Reset or the
Aftertreatment Maintenance Reset – All features in INSITE™ on any CM2250 or
CM2350 products. Use of the Aftertreatment Maintenance Filter Installation Reset or
the Aftertreatment Maintenance Reset – All feature on any CM2250 or CM2350
products will not reset the ash adjustment value and will result in a damaged
aftertreatment DPF.
Failure to troubleshoot and correct engine out smoke during a repair where fault codes
1921, 1922, 1981, 2639, 2754, 3375, and 3376 are present and a ECM calibration download
is performed will result in damage to the aftertreatment DPF.
Refer to the fault code troubleshooting trees in Expert Diagnostic System (EDS) or in the
corresponding fault code troubleshooting manual.

Implemented for production at Jamestown Engine Plant in November 2014. Engine serial
number (ESN) first is not available at this time.
