Summary
THIS TEMPORARY REPAIR PRACTIVE IS BEING ISSUED TO AUTHORIZE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LUBRICATING OIL FILTER BYPASS VALVE ON CERTAIN ISX12 AND ISX15
ENGINES ANYTIME THE UNIT IS IN FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS, WITH CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS ON REIMBURSEMENT. THIS IS A RE-ISSUE OF A PREVIOUSLY RELEASED COMMUNICATION. THE NEW BYPASS VALVE HAS MORE EFFECTIVE SEALING CAPABILITY AND PROVIDES BETTER PROTECTION TO FULE PUMP LUBRICATED COMPONENTS. THIS IS A REISSUE OF A PREVIOUSLY RELEASED COMMUNICATION.

This is to revise and replace TRP 1706, dated 16-Oct-2015. This revision is to:
1. Add clarifying narrative.

Description
NOTE: The lubricating oil filter bypass valve retaining plug MUST be inspected prior to
starting this repair. If the face of retaining plug is painted with highly visible paint,
STOP. Do NOT perform this field action. The painted retaining plug indicates that the
new bypass valve is already installed. Do NOT proceed any further.
This Temporary Repair Practice (TRP) provides authorization to replace the lubricating oil filter
bypass valve on ISX12 and ISX15 CM2250, ISX12 and ISX15 CM2350, QSX12 and QSX15
CM2250ECF and CM2350, and ISXe5 engines anytime the unit is in for maintenance or
repairs, with certain restrictions on reimbursement.

The new bypass valve is based on a proven Cummins Midrange design which has more
effective sealing capability and provides better protection to fuel pump lubricated components.
The bypass valve is located in the lubricating oil filter head and is easy to install.
NOTE: This TRP does not reimburse for any SRTs, except those that are listed. It is
recommended, but not required, that this Field Action be performed as part of another
Cummins warrantable repair event to allow reimbursement for charges, such as travel,
troubleshooting or access issues, that are outside the scope of this document.
NOTE: The face of the bypass valve retaining plug MUST be clearly painted with a high
quality, highly visible paint marker (preferably white or yellow) to signify that the new
bypass valve has been installed.
Action
In order to qualify for repair under this field action, an engine:
1. must be within Base Engine Warranty, the Emissions Coverage period and/or within a
CAP Coverage period, and
2. must be on the attached ESN list.
NOTE: The attached ESN list is provided in a sequential table. ESNs are listed from the
smallest to largest, in four (4) columns. It is recommended that the Excel Find function
be utilized to verify ESN eligibility. Select the entire table (upper left hand corner), press
the CTRL and F keys, key in your targeted ESN. If the ESN is eligible, the dialog box will
provide the location of the ESN (by column and row).
After verifying that the engine meets the above requirements, perform the following actions:
1. Remove lubricating oil filter bypass valve. Please refer to Service Manual (4022250 for
ISX15 CM2250, 2883557 for QSX15 CM2250 ECF, 2883561 for QSX11.9 CM2250 ECF
and 2883445 for ISX12 CM2250, 4310641 for ISX15 CM2350, 4310646 for ISX12
CM2350, 4332712 for QSX15 CM2350, 4310736 for ISX15 CM2250SN) and Procedure
007-014.
2. Install bypass valve, Part Number 4357177. Please refer to Service Manual (4022250 for
ISX15 CM2250, 2883557 for QSX15 CM2250 ECF, 2883561 for QSX11.9 CM2250 ECF
and 2883445 for ISX12 CM2250, 4310641 for ISX15 CM2350, 4310646 for ISX12
CM2350, 4332712 for QSX15 CM2350, 4310736 for ISX15 CM2250SN) and Procedure
007-014.
3. Paint the face of the bypass valve retaining plug with high quality, highly visible paint
marker (preferably white or yellow) to signify that the new bypass valve has been
installed and the retaining plug properly torqued.
Material Disposition
Materials removed as a result of this field action must be scrapped.
NOTE: After the repair is completed, the face of the bypass valve retaining plug MUST
