NEWMAR
CORPORATION HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN SPECIFIC MOTORHOMES BUILT ON FREIGHTLINER CHASSIS. THIS RECALL IS THE RESULT OF INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY DAIMLER TRUCKS NORTH AMERICA. NHTSA RECALL# 16V 414, TC#2016-288 ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES, AN INCORRECT SPACER MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON THE STEERING GEARS MOUNTED ON THE FRONT AXLE OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. THIS MAY POTENTIALLY RESULT IN WEAR OVER TIME LEADING TO A LOSS OF THE MECHANICAL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT AXLE WHEELS. IF THIS HAPPENS, LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL MAY OCCUR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

Description
Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes
built on Freightliner chassis. This recall is the result of information provided to us by Daimler Trucks North
America.
NHTSA Recall# 16v 414, TC#2016-288
On certain motorhomes, an incorrect spacer may have been installed on the steering gears mounted on the front
axle of the affected vehicles.
Issue: This may potentially result in wear over time leading to a loss of the mechanical connection between the
steering wheel and front axle wheels. If this happens, loss of steering control may occur, increasing the risk of a
vehicle crash.
The affected units were produced between 6/17/2014 and 10/26/2015.
Recommended Action
Correction: Steering gears will be inspected and suspect gears will be replaced at no cost to the customer.
Repair Procedure: Contact DTNA at 800-547-0712 or via e-mail [email protected].
Recall #16v 366. DTNA set the repair time for 1.9 hours.
Note: Newmar will not be authorizing this repair. DTNA will authorize and schedule this repair. If you need

Subject: Recall Campaign No.: 16V 414
This notice is sent to you as a Newmar Dealer in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and
Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety
exists in specific Newmar recreational vehicles.
The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires that each vehicle which is subject to a recall campaign
of this type must be satisfactorily repaired within a reasonable time after the owner has tendered it for repair. A
failure to adequately repair within 60 days after tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair
within a reasonable time. To avoid providing these problematic solutions, every effort must be made to promptly
schedule an appointment with each owner and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. Vehicle owners are being
notified of this recall. If the condition is not remedied within a reasonable time, they are instructed on how to
contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Newmar recreational vehicles.
Each vehicle which is subject to a recall campaign of this type must be satisfactorily repaired within a reasonable
time after the owner has tendered it for repair. A failure to adequately repair within 60 days after tender of a

REASON FOR THIS RECALL
In response to notification from Daimler Trucks North America, Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect
which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motor homes built on Freightliner chassis.
On certain motorhomes with steering gears mounted on the front axle, an incorrect spacer may have been
installed. This may result in wear over time, which could lead to a loss of the mechanical connection between the
steering wheel and front axle wheels. If this happens, there could be a loss of steering control, increasing the risk
of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and suspect gears will be
replaced. Note: Owners are advised to not to drive their motorhomes until a replacement steering gear is
available.
These motor homes require immediate service. Continued use poses a potential safety hazard.
Motorhomes included in this recall include: 2015-2016 Dutch Star Class A motorhomes built between 06/18/2014
and 07/16/2015.
