Dear Dealers,
In an effort to provide a comprehensive ‘one-stop’ resource for technicians, Ducati has released the gear
learning procedure update for all of the above-mentioned motorbikes.
Gear learning procedure
The procedure must be carried out starting from a cold engine condition (ambient temperature). Start the
engine and warm it up for 10 minutes. It is important that water temperature, as displayed on instrument
panel, stays above 80°C throughout the whole procedure. Moreover, we’ve found the best success when
measuring the engine case temperature, adjacent to the gear position sensor, to achieve over 80°C. If the
motorcycle is started from a low ambient temperature, say below 12°C, the cases may not become as
warm in 10 minutes of running time, though the coolant temperature is optimal.
Strictly follow the points listed below:
1) Position the bike on the rear paddock stand or on the central stand for those bikes provided with it.
Ensure that the clutch micro-switch is fitted correctly since it is essential to complete the gear learning
procedure successfully.
2) Start the engine and let it warm up for 10 minutes. Stop the engine leaving the Key in the ‘On’ position.
3) With the gear in neutral, pull the clutch lever completely and wait for the letter ‘C’ to flash on the instrument
panel.

4) Release the clutch lever completely and manually set in motion rear wheel engaging the 1 gear.

5) Pull the clutch lever until it stops and wait for the flashing letter "C" to be displayed on the instrument
panel "GEAR" box (the system has acquired the data).

6) Fully let go of clutch lever and manually set in motion rear wheel engaging the 2 gear.

7) Pull the clutch lever until it stops and wait for the flashing letter "C" to be displayed on the instrument
panel "GEAR" box (the system has acquired the data).

8) Repeat the same operations described above by points (4) and (5) for the 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 gear.
